Default The Spice Corner in the Italian Market

Oh No! What happened?
I saw an L&I sticker on the window, noting a shutdown date of 1/25 for "Public Nuisance" (never seen that before on anything but a bar...???)
Does anyone know if they plan on reopening?

Those notices usually list the specific alleged activities leading to the shutdown. Please read the details next time you're by there and let us know.

I have seen them close off and on, in the past several months. Something's going on...L&I violations?

I am close friends with the family that runs the store. They will be open soon. There have been L&I citations up and down 9th Street for a few months and most of the merchants dealt with the issues immediately. The Spice Corner is working with L&I but most of the problems are building related as it is an old building. The snow has been delaying follow up inspection but they should be officially back open in the next week or two.

That's good news. It would be a big loss to the Italian Market if they closed

A previous L+I notice (around Thanksgiving?) stated that they were running a business without a license for spices. This was around the same time that it was noticed that Pat's and Geno's were operating without sidewalk seating licenses. With the lack of new buildings going up and few plans to review/inspect, L+I has lots of time on their hands to dig through back records and cite violations. I'm all for verifying that buildings in this city do not pose life safety issues to residents, but most of these other issues should just be grandfathered in, especially since few are intentional or are done with malice.

I can't wait for spice corner to reopen. My shopping list is growing. . .

Give Green Aisle Grocer a call @ 215 465 1411. They are located at 1618 East Passyunk Avenue. They stock a good variety of spices.

I love me Green Aisle don't get me wrong, but Green Aisle is no Spice Corner. Love me that feisty Austrian lady.

Operating a spice store without a spice license? Selling unregistered beer?

At least in my dotage I won't recall that I left Philadelphia because Amtrak bled me to death but rather because they took away my Sweet Hungarian Paprika and unregistered Pliny the Younger!

This is how we create a good business environment?

That's what Philly is all about. It's the city that stabs you in the back.
