There's nothing on foobooz.com about it.
Who knows.
I am not the Jackass Whisperer.
The last time I went was a couple of months ago and they didn't have any wine, just a few glasses worth of chardonnay. They said they were having problems with their distributer; sometimes they came and sometimes they didn't. Didn't seem like a good sign.
Haven't seen any activity in there for about a week.
Don't see how they could survive, given the lack of customers for the last several months.
looks like there's all kinds of drama going on there...
Coquette facing sheriff's sale | Philadelphia Inquirer | 10/20/2009
Ive hung out with the waitstaff a few times and was told that they were owed over a month's worth of paychecks and tips that were placed on credit cards. Many were quitting or on their last leg.
That really sucks about the waitstaff. I liked this place when it first opened and thought maybe something was actually going to stick around in that space.
We walked past Coquette last night too and commented that it looked closed. It's a loss. When it first opened two years ago in the summer of 07, we loved it and went several times a month, and always brought out of town friends there for good French food at reasonable prices in a very cool atmosphere. It was also one of the first around the area to go "outdoors".
Gradually the quality of the food diminished, until we went for Sunday brunch one afternoon last fall and ordered the French Toast. We got battered Wonderbread rather than the French Bread they served in the past.
I also heard that the owner Mr. Neff was tempermental and not very nice to his staff. That in turn showed in how the staff interacted with the diners.
It's kinda sad that he had a great thing going there and it was a real + for the neighborhood, and now it's gone. It's been painful to watch. RIP
That guy just seems to be a very poor restauranteur. He also ran the Oyster House into the ground, which has been reopened by its new owners and is going gangbusters.
I hope that location will soon get the establishment it deserves. it was a great spot.
True true. I also like Cochon, Bistro La Minette and Beau Monde a lot, not to mention Bibou. What I really liked about Coquette above the others was the actual space itself. It really looked like an old French Bistro and I loved all the windows that connected you to the street outside. Also liked the outdoor seating in the nicer weather. Remember when they were going gangbusters and they were seating people on the little triangle created by Passyunk and 5th??
I'm looking forward to going back to the space in whatever its reincarnation will be.
