How exactly will this be a boost to restaurants? Please don't cite BYOB nonsense as helping restaurants.

Kudos to Senator Farnese's office for their efforts on behalf of the community and to PLCB Chairman Joseph Conti for making this happen! This will be a huge boost to all restaurants in the area (both licensed and BYOB) and will enable customers from Queen Village, Society Hill, Washington Square West, Bella Vista and Hawthorne to have access to the very best wines and spirirts right here on South Street!

I though restaurants could order (ETA: from the complete inventory/catalog) and pickup from any state store; is that not the case?

You obviously never worked at or owned a restaurant before.

A licensee can order anything from anywhere in the world, which will be delivered to a specific palcb store, and restaurants certainly don't depend on a local store for what is available on the market. The licensee picks up at a specific store, or they have a licensed delivery service deliver. This store will have no bearing on local restaurants whatsoever. Made up nonsense.

So they're not constrained by the PLCB catalog?; I didn't realize that (obviously they have access to more that what's at the corner store, I thought they just SLO'd everything). They can literally buy anything as long as they funnel it through the state store (or licensed service), I assume for tax accountability?

Anyone, including licensees, can buy anything. The PALCB accepts the shipment, and then charges tax during the transfer.

Correct. I've had a couple of instances at the premium stores where I would ask for a specific whiskey or bourbon, they'd see that nobody in the state had it, and they'd offer to source it for me and get it in. I took them up on that exactly once. It was less aggravation to cross a bridge and pay less.

Oh, it is definitely a pain in the ass-but a necessary evil for a business. They have to keep receipts for every single bottle that is in their business or face getting shut down.

Businesses can deal directly with some distributor wineries in PA, but even there they must back up 2 years worth of receipts or risk getting shut down... and the lcb does walk in out of the blue to check. Sometimes they are really awesome and come in at 10 or 11 on a friday or saturday night. Super fun times.

Thanks for the info. I tried SLO once, waste of time; cannot imagine what off menu would entail.

Didn't that happen to Le Bec back in the day; or maybe I it was a hypothetical "if they raided the wine cellar".

ETA: back on topic, improving that store would be a good thing. 5th & Pine is still pretty decent but it seems to me that selection has suffered since Del Ave reopened.
