Default Bought a home by 11th and Fitz

Well, I move from QV to Bella Vista in a couple of weeks. This is my first home and I'm bouncing off the walls excited. I'm also in the running for a job in Center City (in that giant, ugly building) so the concept of being able to walk to work instead of commuting 1-2 hours each way is making me teary eyed.

Anyway, I'm in the area fairly often for brunch, dinner, Whole Foods, Pho, whatever. However, seeing as how I'll be living there now, are there any recommendations for "regular" types of places for coffee, bars, corner stores, and whatever else?

Congrats, enjoy, and good luck on the job.

You probably know most of the places but Chapterhouse is a nice place if you have the occasion to sit with others or sit and work with a coffee. I always make good use of the Italian Market with Tortilleria San Roman for tortillas, one of the Mexican grocers for queso fresco, and the stands for vegetables, you can make pretty amazing tacos for incredibly cheap. I also refill my spices at the place on the west side of 9th just south of Christian. I can't say I have the wherewithal to know if it's better than the grocery store but it is definitely cheaper. And of course you have all of the Italian places which are great. Also, east side of 8th right north of Christian is a great Banh Mi place. Cheap and I like their bread--not as soft as some of the others. Not sure if that's what you're looking for but if not I'm sure you'll quickly find places.

I just moved to 11th and Christian and I'm still finding my way around as well. PM me when you get in and we'll get coffee and share finds.

    Default welcome

Welcome to the neighborhood. I live on Marvine just south of Fitz and love it. For bars, my wife and I usually hit up Wishing Well or Devil's Den.

welcome to the neighborhood. finding nice places to shop & eat is like shooting fish in a barrel around here. i'd second all the recommendations you've gotten so far. don't forget about sarcone's for italian bread, isgro's for pastries if that's your style. and you could just roll out of bed & have brunch at Hawthornes, which sounds good to me!

    1) buy a firearm.
    2) go to Spring Garden police building and get a license to carry.
    3) do not walk around your neighborhood alone after 8pm (after 6:00 pm in the winter).
    4) ask your realtor why s/he didn't tell you that the projects are a stone-throw away from your house.
    5) stay indoors to avoid flash mobs in the summer.
    6) don't even think about walking near South Street the weekend after July 4th (known locally as the Greek Picnic)
    7) harbor deep feelings of regret for having made a home purchase without first doing your homework on the neighborhood.

    What a jerk.

    1. Anybody at 11th and Fitz is well away from South St. and any silliness that comes there, not from Hawthorne, but because its a "destination" for kids around the area. Some of the convicted South St. flash mobbers were from inner DelCo, for example.
    2. I'm not white washing the facts in anyway to point out that the new post-Hope IV HUD housing which mixes various levels of subsidized housing with some owned units together is dramatically different from the giant old towers of the past. Its idiotic to say the are the same thing, because obviously they are not. Todays mixed level of subsidized housing in "nice" low-rise townhouses is no more the same animal as the old towers than a 50cc Vespa is the same animal as Harley. Not that there are no issues living near subsidized housing, but they are on a dramatically different scale.

You're about 5-7 years too late for most if this asinine list. Thanks for playing, though. Greek Picnic? Seriously?

    Default There. Fixed it.

    If you're like theREALalesis you'll,

    1) buy a firearm because you have a small penis.
    2) go to Spring Garden police building and get a license to carry, so that FINALLY you'll feel like an adequate man.
    3) do not walk around your neighborhood alone after 8pm (after 6:00 pm in the winter) because you're basically a frightened, paranoid coward
    4) ask your realtor why s/he didn't tell you that the projects are a stone-throw away from your house, even though the projects around there were completed demolished and replaced with mixed income housing years ago.
    5) stay indoors to avoid flash mobs in the summer, because, like some blonde suburban teenage girl, you truly believe that there's, like, a violent flash mob, like, every weekend (OMG!!)
    6) don't even think about walking near South Street the weekend after July 4th (known locally as the Greek Picnic) because it'll be really pretty quiet and boring since Greek Picnic was effectively neutralized by PPD and the neighborhood civics years ago.
    7) harbor deep feelings of regret for having made a home purchase without first doing your homework on the neighborhood. because it's a really up and coming area that is filling up with young professionals, and, in comparison, it makes you realize that you're a ugly little p*ssy who has his head up his @ss

Yeah, I live on 4th and Bainbridge right now and I pretty much don't leave my house. The negros are literally everywhere.

It's not like I've already lived here for years, dip****. Keep being scared.
