3rd Annual Friends of the South Street Mini Station Fundraiser 5/20/12

Hello everyone.

On Sunday, May 20, 2012, we'll be having our 3rd annual Friends of the South Street Mini Station fundraiser.

It will be held again at the Society Hill Dance Academy, 409 S. 2d St., since Shana has so graciously offered it to us again.

It remains a bargain at $25 per person, and will run from 3-6pm.

It is our Taste of the Neighborhoods event, complete with food, drink, prizes, raffles and entertainment. If you've joined us before you know that we have a wide assortment of and plenty of food to eat and beverages to drink.

I have an incomplete list to date.

Gnocchi
Brauhaus Schmitz
Supper
Kebab House
Taffet's (the gluten free bakery on 9th St.)

I am awaiting confirmation from several others. We've had some new places open up on South St and nearby so I hope to have some of them involved.

The dunk tank is back by popular demand, and this year we're adding a moonbounce for the kids. We'll have a DJ as well.

We've lined up a number of gift certificates for the raffle and some highly desirable items for the silent auction.

Not everyone is aware so this bears repeating.

The city only pays the salaries of the officers assigned to the mini station. Everything else needs to be provided by the community in which the mini station serves.

The landlord provides the space free of rent, and the South Street Headhouse District pays the utilities and provides supplies.

The officers' facility has suffered from leaks and mold, some of which has been remediated. There are still ongoing repairs which will need to be paid for. And the officers have needed bicycles, which we provide, and some of the neighbors' groups have graciously stepped up and helped provide as well.

Recently the officers received sound meters, but were in need of sound meter training, so we on the board approved funds to provide this.

It's a worthy cause and by doing this you can come out, meet neighbors and your officers. We just received a new lieutenant today since Lt. Bologna was promoted to captain. So feel free to come out and meet Lt. McLean and the rest of the team, as well as thank Capt. Bologna for his great service to us.

The website has been updated, and you now have the option of paying online through Eventbrite or downloading a .pdf to send with your payment for the event. Or come to the door that day.

Great cause-- ideally the city would be providing for public safety from all the taxes it collects, but if the neighborhood has to provide extra service what a way of doing it! I'll try to be there and buy the ticket. and spread the word. thanks for organizing this.
