Default SUV up on blocks next to Bean Exchange

I drove by the Bean Exchange yesterday and noticed an SUV up on plastic crates with the wheels gone...think it was an Acura or Nissan parked on the East side of the building in the off street spot.

Assuming they were stolen, anyone have info?

When I saw this (Nissan Murano), I originally thought perhaps the owner had ordered new wheels. Or something. Never occurred to me that someone stole all four wheels. I have never seen anything like this in BV, except a few years ago when some lunatic was dumping stolen cars in the hood and setting them afire.

Also, Bean Exchange's security cameras have not worked in a VERY long time. And right now two of their three entry/exit doors are not functional.

I did a double take on that as well but the blue plastic crate type things shoved under it looked to be buckling under the load so I assumed the wheels where stolen...somewhat surreal visual though.

Right!? So strange. Bad luck for that guy.

The car belongs to a friend of a friend, and she confirmed it was a theft. She also confirmed that the owner of the car had fairly standard tires on the car. I'm surprised people would go to such lengths to steal 4 used tires. What could the resale value be on those...$50, maybe $100 each at best? Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there are less risky and more time efficient ways to conduct criminal activity.

They weren't after the tires. They wanted the wheels. Easily $1200. If custom, more.

The security cameras did capture two men who worked like an Indy Pit Team, with crowbars and no jacks, and a third man as lookout. They had those wheels off and on blocks in less than 15 minutes.

It has been happening a lot in the Fishtown vicinity, from what I've heard.

Tire and Rim Thefts | Fishtown.US - 19125 (fishtown, old richmond, east kensington)

"The thieves seem to be targeting newer model cars (2000 - 2011 models) and seem to especially like Honda Fits."

It's been happening all over. There is a thread in the NE forum about a car that was on blocks, on a really, nice, quiet block on Fox Chase.

Do wheel locks help at all? Are they easily defeated, merely a deterrent or actual security?

There is another thread on this topic in the Forum. Seems like wheel locks work as security and deterrence when you have one on every lug nut, so for a standard passenger vehicle you need 20.
