    Default Septa Police presence

It was great to see Septa police on the El every afternoon last week now that the out-of-control public school kids are back. I hope this will continue.

The public schools should seriously teach a class in every middle and high school on how to behave in public. The Kensington CAPA, Mariana Brachetti Academy, Cornell and Mastbaum are the worst--yelling, cursing, smacking each other around and moving from car to car while the train is moving. In stark contrast, the kids from Bodine, Roman and Hallahan are so well-behaved. They sit and just talk or read or play games on their cell phones. Some of them even do their homework. The Roman boys routinely give up their seats to senior citizens when the El is crowded.

I saw a Septa cop standing sentry at a station on Broad the other day. I wasn't sure if it was part of a schedule or if there was something going on. Even if it was the latter, it was good to see a guard there.

They should be riding the subway and the El all day long, every day, IMO.

And why would you think they don't do this?

They don't. There are like 5 or 6 cops on duty for the whole system after peak time. During rush hours presence on the subways is pretty good, and at Suburban it is insane, with the commando guys in bullet proof vests.

I too noticed an increase in the visible presence of SEPTA Police this past week even in places and at times where I normally haven't seen them. Hopefully it continues.

If they do, they must be invisible.
