Records show Ponds has a prior weapons arrest for allegedly firing three shots at his ex-girlfriend in September 2011, then severely beating her. The charges were withdrawn after a witness failed to appear.

have to say it annoys me that the press seems to somehow think the marijuana makes this all worse rather than the fact he could have been off the streets

I'm sure Seth Williams will understand that he was "Essentially a good guy who just had a tough time growing up and fell in with the wrong crowd." and that "He is trying to get his life back on track and wants to go to trade school" so he should only get a slap on the wrists and be let back out to turn his life around. He didn't actually hurt anyone after all.

not sure what this has to do with seth williams specifically since the baboon before him also allowed this to happen, constantly. she was a loud mouth and a proponent of "get stupid on crime" but did little. seth doesn't appear to be the change that was needed. the move to make pot a penalty was a nice start but didn't go far enough and was followed up by nothing.

He, like his predecessors, have done nothing to address gun crimes. Illegal possession of a firearm in Philadelphia is still a slap on the wrists, if that. It's simple: get caught in the possession of an illegal firearm, proceed to jail.

Was Williams the one who complained he wasn't getting a nice enough SUV from the city?

That is Jewell Williams, the Sheriff.

    Very different people.

Seth Williams is young, ambitious, did his time as an ADA and as Inspector General. Ran a competitive election, twice, to get elected to his position. Deserves real credit as a practicing Catholic for pursuing the child-sex-abuse convictions. But allegedly also promoted an underqualified campaign aide (who may or may not be a romantic interest) to an overly compensated "Morale" aka glorified party planning position.

Jewell Williams, older, long time ward leader and state rep from North Philadelphia. Has absolutely no previous criminal law experience whatsoever but was basically "annointed" by the local Democratic Party to his position. Was actually the lead plaintiff in putting an end to "Stop and Frisk" in Philadelphia because he got "Don't you know who I am?" annoyed at cops who pulled him over. Tried to deliver his extremely unqualified daughter (who he gave the same name minus an "l") his former seat in the state house, unsuccesfully.

I think you overestimate what leverage the DA's office, under any DA, could do with the current courts to produce convictions.

Plus the other Williams, the sherriff, is directly, personally responsible for taking away the strongest tool Phila PD had to reduce the number of illegal guns on the street. Jewell Williams was, personally, one of the lead witnesses in the court case that took "Stop and Frisk" off the table.

Are they part of plea deals or are they illegal guns found at a crime scene that the defendents claim "to know nothing about" and hence deemed a pain to try to prosecute?

    Give me more details.

it's not just gun crimes, the justice system is broken. look at the quote above, witnesses failed to appear for trial. that's what they need to fix. as far as I know Philadelphia has a criminally low fund for witness protection (remember when that guy who testified against the savages (the brothers) had his family kill by arson?) then we turn around and criticize the stop snitching "culture." if retribution is common, then you're sacrificing your life. there was a lady who worked ina corner store recently who helped the police. she was on fox29 because she adopted the dead man's cat. less than two weeks later she was shot and killed in retribution

Please. Stop throwing bouquets at DA Williams. It was his office that refused to prosecute those black racists that beat up that white guy in a cab on Chestnut St some months back.

I thought there was a dig with those bouquets. Not having a case because victim won't testify is not the same as "refusing to prosecute".

Yes. My original comment wasn't directed at any particular DA. I was talking about the criminal justice system. If the choice is between sentence length and prosecutions, I would rather have more prosecutions at this point. I'd rather have more gun criminals serving 5 years sentences than fewer serving 10.

As dumb as this was, septa transit police did their job. They were waiting for him getting off at fairmount and made the arrest. I'm glad some things in this city actually work.
