Default Last Stop for Express Trains

So the last stop of most express trains is Walnut/Locust, but I always see a handful of Flyers/Phillies fans remain on the train after it turns off it's lights and tries to kick everybody off. I can't tell if they're out of towners that have no idea what they're doing, or if they're geniuses.

Do the trains have to go all the way to the end of the line to turn around? Do these people get to ride down to Pattison and get off, arriving at the stadiums earlier than fans that follow the rules, hop off, and wait for the next train? If that is the case, why wouldn't SEPTA just run every express train as the sports complex blue light special?

They don't turn around per se, but they switch to the northbound express track between Walnut-Locust and Lombard-South.

Only SEPTA would run "express" trains that do not run to the stadiums on game days. NB, express trains do not stop at Temple. The express trains do stop at Girard though, so it must be a pretty major stop...and yet the station doesn't have a token vending machine.

    SEPTA is so incompetent!

SEPTA does run express service to AT&T on game days. If you mean extending regular express runs to the stadiums, I'm not sure that's necessary as the sports expresses or whatever they call them run at the time times fans are most likely to be heading down there or back home, and there probably isn't capacity to extend the regular expresses down there since it's single track past W-L. Any express to AT&T has to be scheduled to not get stuck behind a local.

I agree with you about token machines but don't expect any new ones since NPT is ostensibly only a year or so away.

The lack of token machine at Girard is silly, but Temple doesn't have express platforms so not sure what you want SEPTA to do there..

they get screwed, the train sits south of the station before returning to the northbound platform.
I agree it makes sense for septa to simply extend the express trains that are already running instead of adding specials when the timing works (obviously the return trip needs the specials). it would be a lot less confusing for everyone.

They don't know the difference between trains. I always wait around till they flash the lights and watch em all get confused.

Even more confusing when they run back to back Express / AT&T Express trains during rush hour - I've been on either of these trains when both Express and AT&T Express end up pulling up simultanously at City Hall with Express on the Express track and the AT&T Express on the local. Stampede into a train. Stampede out of a train. Mass crossover of passengers.

And for those of you wondering, the 2 times I've been on the AT&T Express train when it pulls up to City Hall on the local, they cross the train over to the local tracks after Girard.

We still talking about Token machines? in two years Tokens will be gone FOREVER!

And on the Blue Sports Express Train, yeah when a game happens during the regular weekday, people get confused on what Train is which(As they run to the first one that comes to make it from their transfer).

Blue is Sports; Green is regular express. Its not that hard(Tho, new trains would make it easier..)

No love for South Philadelphia locals, I see. It would be nice if midday and evening Express trains could run beyond Walnut-Locust, making local stops down to Pattison and back. It's not as though there's track or terminal congestion that would prevent it, except maybe at rush hours (when there wouldn't be enough trains to run anyway), and the doubled frequency would go a long way to making the subway a better option for South Philadelphia. It would also avoid a lot of nonsense for afternoon games, where southbound Sports Specials seem to mostly result in uneven crowding and frustratingly long wait times for everyone.
