Sorta. Its complicated, as that area is going to be transformed greatly, its a mess.

That's all I can really call it. a mess. Money wasn't the only reason SEPTA was holding off on this. But Looking and zooming into the picture, the whole waiting area of the BSL is going to change:

As seen there the Fairgate that is underground is in a new location(Verses being in the center of the waiting area).

They removed the Fencing that used to be there.

This means the East side will still have access, but in a new location, as expected with the new payment system.

Stairwell 1, 2, 3, and 4 will be used to funnel the people into the BSL from the new Dilworth Plaza faregate entrence.

As seen in the photo, they drilled TWO new entrence holes next to both tunnels that westbound and eastbound MFL riders use to get free transfers.

The MFL transfer tunnels are the grey floor looking area next to the white walls(you can only see the left hands side in this image).

This is also why the fencing area is gone as the new BSL tunnel entrence would be on the other side of the old faregate.

Its a mess, and that not even showing the whole Elevator situation for the MFL which is here:

Then one day they will have to add two elevators to both waiting areas of the BSL..but that is another day(and 100 million dollars)

thanks, I think the problem is the diagrams, they aren't clear, but if I understand correctly, you will no longer be able to walk through from east to west but there will be a faregate facing east...this is actually an improvement then, and though more expensive, the common sense thing to do. this part makes some sense, though I still think elevator PE2 should be on the north side of JFK so people don't have to cross jfk when transferring from the bus routes (or to them). there is an extant tunnel under jfk, as you know. as for the $100 million project, I think it's probably the most overrated project in the city. it'll be nice, but the fact is it won't solve most of the problems and the cost is such that ALL OTHER STATIONS on the BSL could be made compliant...which is exactly what I think should happen. city hall should be a capstone project rather than of utmost importance. I would replace the short staircase to the el with a ramp and remove the drop ceiling though

You can still go East to West underground, but you'd just have to take the southern or northern tunnels to get there(Which go around City Hall like above.)

Elevator PE2 would be better over at JFK, but its main function is to provide to the Subway Surface line with ADA service, whenever the new LRT come in(2018).

And yeah I think City Hall should be last too, but many others think otherwise as they use it the most(thanks to the free transfers).

No offical SEPTA mock ups yet, but as seen by history, SEPTA gets what is the standard(The K-Cars were the suppose to be the standard back in the 80s, but that failed because we backed out of the US program and went with Kawasaki, who built similar but better Trolleys. Irony being that the Trollleys were being built here in Philly..but had issues, as you read)

So here is what today's light rail Trolleys look like:

And seeing that Toronto is getting them, they shouldn't have any problem getting around our small streets either.

I imagine ours would be more the length of the new DC ones even if they look more like that, right?

Toronto's new cars are from Bombardier, and DC's are from Inkeon. If SEPTA were to go with Kawasaki again, it's hard to say what they'd look like, other than generally like a modern LRV. Kawasaki has mostly been making subway and commuter rail cars for the last few years.

Really though, with the entire fleet being replaced, lots of companies will probably get in on the bidding. Siemens, Kinkysharyo, whoever.

Yeah they might be slightly smaller, and not two headed(Outside of the 101 and 102). But like I said, if Toronto can handle these 70 seat LTR, I think we can too.

Above the stations, the Center City District is overseeing the remake of Dilworth Plaza, which will transform the concrete desert west of City Hall into a large lawn with trees, a fountain, and a cafe by 2014. It will also provide five elevators to the Market-Frankford and Subway-Surface lines...

The Dilworth remake will include improvements to the mazelike concourse to make entry and exit easier, and the turnstile areas will be rebuilt.

But "once you get past the fare line, it's the same station that it is now," said Jeff Knueppel, chief engineer for SEPTA.

No elevator access will be provided to the Broad Street line, although shafts will be built as part of the Dilworth Plaza renovation to accommodate elevators if future funding is provided, said Paul Levy, president of the Center City District.

See...Philly.com needs to stop stealing from us.

No elevator access will be provided to the Broad Street line, although shafts will be built as part of the Dilworth Plaza renovation to accommodate elevators if future funding is provided, said Paul Levy, president of the Center City District.

"That way, there'll be no need to rip up Dilworth Plaza to put in elevators if and when they get the money," Levy said.

will be interesting to see if anyone uses the new entrance, right now most people enter from the other side of the street. the elevator is certainly a welcome addition. where is this abandoned trolley tunnel?

Not sure but I think it might be the little pullout right as you leave westbound City Hall/15th St station. It looked like they were doing work there some weeks back.

Iirc it is the stub from an abandoned branch that is only used if a disabled car needs to move off the loop.
