Temple Football's Perfect Storm

The Temple Owls Football program is in a great position to become the premier college football program in the state of Pennslyvania and a force nationwide. Temple football after being a lauhghing stock for most of my life and being rightfully booted out of the big east confernce some years back is now back in the big east not on merit but desparation of the big east conference to keep its BCS moniker alive.

Temple Univesity/alums and the Philadelphia area deserves and can support big time college football, and with the right moves right now Temple could become a big time college football program.

1) Temple has a 30,000 student body, most Temple alums live in the tri state area and the Delaware Valley has a population of roughly 5 million.

2) Playing at the Linc is one of the best football stadiums in the country.

3) Pitt and Penn State are both on a downswing with Penn State not able to get off the mat for four years thanks to NCAA and Big 10 sanctions which levels the playing field in recruitment in the football rich keystone state/delaware valley for high school players.

4) Penn State does not have Joe Paterno picking football plums off our city trees/high schools anymore, like he did for the last 40 plus years.

5) New additions to the conference such as national power house Boise State will only raise the prestige/limelight of the conference which should also help with local recruiting.

6) The only thing missing is a big time/big name head football coach. I was at the Maryland game today and Temple must have run 15 quarterback keepers/sneaks. I have not seen that much ineptness in play calling since watching peewee football some years ago. Temple needs to replace Addazzio immediately after this season and put on the search for a big time football college coach to make major strides and inroads with becoming a major national football program.

Temple student body/alums, the Philadelphia area, and Lincoln Field can and will support big time college football, now the only question is will Temple University support big time college football by taking a leap of faith and hire a big time football head coach even overpaying if they have too. Now is the perfect storm for Temple to stop talking tough and actually become Temple Tough. Addazzio was probably a fine fit when Temple was in the midget football conference known as the MAC but fate has opened a door for Temple Football and now it is time for Temple to be Tough enough to walk through that door and hire a big time football coach to help Temple become a powerhouse. Temple University and the Philadelphia area deserve nothing less than a major college football program not seen in these parts since the national power house Penn Teams that used to fill Franklin Field in the 40's-50's.

Temple did not just lose a football game to an intra state rival today, by their piss poor showing they just lost a major recruiting battle for PA-NJ-DE blue chip high school football recruits looking for a place to call home and play college football since Penn State is now basically a gutted football program for the next four years. Temple by todays inept showing against Penn State has just taken themselves out of the running for top high school football players in the tri-state area for next year as major nationally recoginzed college football programs will fill the vacuum created by the Penn State dismantling by recruiting top local talent to their programs because Temple currently is not a viable option.

The time is now for Temple University to put out feelers for potential top named coaches that could be persuaded to lead the Temple Owls football program into uncharted territory by making the team a national recoginzied and respected program. With the right coach running a top flight program Temple could sell out the Linc within the next five years and develop a strong local following.

Temple must part ways with the current head coach and put on a national search for a big name coach starting today and than hire that big name coach in the offseason to help keep top local talent local.

Temple has a perfect opportunity to step into the limelight as the big east is a weak/wounded conference and Penn State is a gutted football program opening the door for Temple Football to seize the moment by bringing their A game and putting their best foot forward. I only hope the board of governors and athletic department seize the moment as the door will close once Penn State has the sanctions removed and than we will be resigned to having the same ole same ole small time and underutilized college football program for the forseeable future in the city of Philadelphia.

Well Temple let another one slip away and with the piss poor showing against Rutgers today they did not lose just another game they lost another recruiting battle for top local talent. That is two recruiting wars Temple has lost on the field against 2 of their main competitors (Penn State/Rutgers) for top local talent this season in the Delaware Valley as Temple has shown again they are not a top tier/viable program for local high school football stars to consider. Enough of the ads telling us how tough you are Temple, put your money where is your mouth is and step up to the plate and hire a top tier coach instead of playing 2nd/3rd fiddle.

Actually Temple football has cornered the market on piss poor showing against local rivals this year, but I do have a trademark on "p*ss poor showing" carloss and that will be one dollar payable in bubble yum bubble gum or a Terry Harmon or Pete Liske rookie card.

PS, tell H.G. Wells that when an adult over 35 is on a bicycle not dressed in bicycle garb looking like the side of a car in a Nascar race it is usually because they lost their license to drinking and driving with an occasional exception or the Kelly Drive/Valley Green crowd.

Well congratulations to Temple football for its underwhelming choice as head coach Ruhle. Instead of being a fast boat to some where, Temple has chosen a slow boat to nowhere with it's new hiring. Philly has been without big time college football for over 50 years which is absolutely rediculous so whats another 20-30 year wait. Temple Football has become a program where no name assistant coaches get a chance to develop into head coaches and than leave for greener pastures just ask Al Golden and Steve Addazzio. Goodbye Temple football we hardly knew ya.
