Is there really not a thread about this already?
Let me start by asking
WTF is up with 1/2 of the gold-medal-winning women's beach volleyball team wearing flip flops for an interview with King Costas?
Also decathlon started. Awesome.

Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.
I generally love the Olympics, especially the Decathlon. But honestly, if I hear one more freaking commentator use the word "heighth", I may have to blow something up!
I am not the Jackass Whisperer.
There is only one thing good about woman's beach VB, and NO it's not the game.....I thought this beach ball fad was over in the 80's Remember the clubs on Delaware ave. had the sand VB courts?
I enjoy these Olympics, especially the logo and colors and type...Tho others hate it so much...
Plus the US is on top in Gold and total metals...Suck that China...

Actually as far a the US went it was too cold for bikinis all the way through the semifinals. With Trainer and Walsh winning I guess you could say it was the year of the MILF, over the youngsters.
Allison Felix is probably one of the most umm photogenic champion female sprinters we've seen in a while besides being an ice-cold zen master as a competitor.
Paola Espinosa in diving is another athlete whose fun to um . . . watch.
how about the dude who was born in NY went to school in CA. and trained there but won a Gold medal for the Dominican republic.
ITs his second gold for the country(He won in 2004) IT really helps those countries gain ground to get others interested in the sports(Outside of Baseball).
Dominican efforts to promote athletics pays off with gold and silver at London Olympics - The Washington Post
Alos many of the athletes(Especially in Track and Field) at the games actually go to US Colleges and Universities.

And this story is still amazing:

I understand hockey players do this but they play for the country they were born in. Was it easier for him to get a spot on the Dominican team then fight for a spot on the US team? I guess some things will never make sense.
I think its a personal choice.
Adeeba Aregawi is an Ethiopian by birth distance runner who originally wanted to run at this Olympics for Sweden, where she lives, where her husband is from and felt compelled by immigration issues and political pressure from Ethipoia to run under their flag, against her will. She wone the semi-finals but didn't medal.
The Ethiopians excel at distance running and you will notice a lot of Bahraini distance runners are very, very recent immigrants from Ethiopia, don't look Arabic at all - are basically imported and supported by a small oil-wealthy Gulf nation to get medals.
Somewhat off topic I'm hugely surprised that Puerto Rico still competes as a seperate nation when Puerto Ricans are all full US citizens.
That was one of the things I forget every four years until I see Rico competing in Boxing by themselves....AGAINST US boxers.
From what I seen the IOC only care if your country can support the sports and you are in.
