Default Garrett Reid, son of Andy Reid, found dead

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Garrett Reid, the oldest son of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid, was found dead Sunday morning in his room at training camp at Lehigh University.

The Eagles held Sunday morning's practice, but Andy Reid wasn't present. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman told reporters that Reid asked the team to go forward with training camp.

Take away from the awful tragedy, I don't think it's too early to suggest that putting someone with a lifelong history of drugs near professional football players is just flat out stupid.

Yes it is, never would be a good time. We know nothing except that a young man has died. To assume & speculate does nothing but show disregard for him, his friends & family, the police, investigators, the coroner & the truth.

    Autoerotic asphyxiation?

Drowned in a bathtub like Whitney?

Wonder if the younger son (who also had similar problems) will go the same route.

I know it's sad and all, but this was a Main Line kid with a dad who is idolized all over the DelVal, and had everything. Unless this is something like foul play, I'm not really sympathetic here.

A dad who by many accounts put his surrogate football family ahead of his real, and highly troubled, family, for many years. Nonetheless, no parent should ever outlive their child.

B/c of this Reid will finally properly refocus himself on the homefront, the Eagles will go 8-8 to miss the playoff, and Big Red will be gone next year. No winners here. Just tragic all around.

Another kid victimized by football. When will people learn. This is like Sandusky all over again, and these fat cat bigots have let money and hatred control everything just for the sake of a football bowl named after some christian fried chicken. It's really a shame. I hope his drugs went to a good cause.

We know that he had a history of drug abuse, drug dealing, DUI and prison time; so assumptions are unavoidable. As soon as I heard the news, I immediately thought that he had OD'd.

NFL head coach is one of the most time consuming jobs ever. Head coaches don't have much contact with their families until after their careers are over.

At least now they have a built-in excuse not to do well.

I just heard this. That's awful. RIP and prayers for the family. No father should have to bury his son.

    Nobody asked for your sympathy.
Drug addiction transcends socio-economic status. His daddy's rich and famous, giving him opportunities that he squandered, but that doesn't have much to do with the strength to beat addiction. I knew addicts who were good people.

Drug addiction transcends economic status. While the Reid's money made it easier to buy drugs, everyone knows an addict will find a way to get their fix. It's a tragedy for the family. You can only do so much but sometimes it's just not enough. Those who are unsympathetic have clearly never witnessed addiction firsthand.

UGH, that's a fkn boldfaced lie if I ever saw one. I know several folks who have won their addition and several who haven't and I am friends with all.

I am unsympathetic with THIS particular kid (and his younger brother), because THEY didn't have to deal with things like employment hassles, or finding a place to live, or any REAL problems like that. Garret always had a lifeline when he needed one, several of my friends never got that and some of them had to deal with far greater problems than Garret ever had to face.

Try being ostracized from your friends and family, AND having to start your career from scratch all over again, AND not being tempted back into using again and dealing with depression.

Sorry. It's like me crying over Whitney--not gonna happen. Yeah it sucks for Garret's mom probably, but I bet daddy knew this was coming a mile away.

Hope this episode changes the course of their younger brother. It probably won't but who knows. Having to stand in front of a grave of someone you've known all your life tends to change people. I've had to bury several friends--I know.

Sister, aunt, and two cousins dead thanks to drugs. I'm totally cool with 4 druggies being off this earth whether they are related to me or not. They chose it, so **** them. Oh, and **** you, too.

Money does not make life easier, it makes paying bills easier. You have no idea what demons people live with. Just because people come from a family of wealth doesn't mean that they have no problems. I don't think anyone grows up saying they want to be a heroin addict, crack addict, alcoholic, etc.

People don't grow up saying they want type two diabetes but they choose to drink a gallon of soda every day.

I wish they'd legalize drugs and make them stronger to get drugs deaths in full swing to rid this country of such scumbags.
