    Default Post-Classic Drama @ Geno's

Cops seek aggressive Flyers fans in post-Classic brawl | Philadelphia Daily News | 01/04/2012

Winter Classic fans brawl at Geno's caught on tape | 6abc.com

I already posted this on FB but it deserves a full airing:

Mistake #1 - Leaving CBP with your Rangers jersey still on. Unless you are headed straight to the parking lot to drive back home, better take that off or put a jacket over it. You're going to get crap from the drunk Flyers fans who don't have all that much tact when they're sober. Deal. We're not talking about the 17 year old hockey punks... these are the older guys who sit in the chair to watch a major loss and then are itching to take it out on someone on the way back home.

We're talking about folks like this:
    Being a Die-Hard Eagles Superfan Probably isn’t Worth the Headache… | phillyneighbor.com

    Mistake #2 - Going to Geno's.

Mistake #3 - Going to Geno's AFTER a mega-hyped Flyers game, so you just KNOW the 700-Level folks will be out in full force.

Oh who am I kidding, this kinda stuff happens every year when Canuck fans come down here in late season and still they never learn.

i was in a bar the second world series. when we were playing the yankees. two obnoxious yankees fans were in there and really obnoxious.. Had it been a different bar or a different group of people they would have been lucky to leave with their lives... you really don't go into another city flaunting the opposite team colors. You should be able to but if you do you are simply stupid. there are crazy fans who don't realize it's just a game.

other patrons started to say things to her to be a bit more respectful. i decided to watch the rest from home. don't know how it turned out for them.

Three stupid mistakes that landed Philly in the national media once again...for being violent sports-crazed imbeciles. The incident was highlighted on Good Morning America this morning--heard it while I was prepping for work. The way it was reported definitely made it sound as though the Flyers fans were the aggressors and the Rangers fans were the victims.

By agreeing that it's something that you "just don't do", this attitude only enables the bad behavior, imo.

She said you should be able to, but it's stupid to do so given the fact that you face this kind of risk. Acknowledging risk is not accepting or enabling it. If you disagree, then I offer you the opportunity to go do the same thing in order to effect change, since you imply that it would.

I should be able to walk down Diamond St. at 4am with $100 bills taped all over my back. By acknowledging that would be a really bad idea, am I now enabling robbery? I guess if viewed from a high horse, you could have that perspective.

They were talking about this on NJ 101.5 this morning - they think one of the Ranger's guys was an off-duty cop.
If you believe people should work till they die to pay for a government worker to retire at 50, you're a Democrat. Otherwise, you're a Republican. All other differences between the parties are trivial.

Enabled was probably the wrong word.

What I'm saying is that the risk exists in large part because the attitude (and much of the behavior that stems from it) is accepted. If you've been to any sporting event you'll see people who would never participate in a physical altercation, but will have no problems telling a fellow fan to "get him, hit him", etc. Hell I've probably done it myself. But that's the attitude I'm getting towards.. the idea that simply being an opposing fan is "wrong". (Gladys I understand you weren't saying all this and don't have this attitude, I was using your comment as a jumping off point).

A guy got punched at a sandwhich shop and had to get a few stitches. Why is this national news? Who the eff cares why they were arguing or what jersey's they were wearing? I'm sure the off-duty cop was running his mouth plenty before he got popped.

If violence is the concern, don't we have more than a half dozen murders this year already?

you should be able to wear your teams colors without the risk of getting physically harmed. i went to the recent jets/eagles game and i was wearing a jets jersey. i was taking **** all night. and i expected the verbal abuse. for the most part it was harmless. but there were a couple of alcohol soaked fools who tried to get physical with me. once they realized i was willing to except their challenge they ended up keeping quiet and leaving me alone. its funny how that works.....

    Correct.

Rangers Fan Beaten By Flyers Fans Is Decorated Iraq War Vet « CBS Philly

"The video shows three Flyers’ fans attacking two men wearing Rangers jerseys after witnesses say the Flyers fans paid a man washing windows to spray the New Yorkers."

"He has been identified as 30-year-old Neil Aurrichio, a Woodbridge, NJ police officer and Iraq war veteran."

i read that one of the alleged perps was bragging on facebook about making him "eat concrete". it will be poetic justice when this guy has to eat bubba's dick in jail.

I find it amazing that someone holds a device (presumably a phone of some sort) to record this rather than using the damned phone to call 911, or intervening in some way. It's despicable behavior from people who wear a jersey and call themselves fans, when the players themselves forget all about these games after they're showered and dressed.

thanks for the clarification. and thanks Lucas for seeing my point in the first place.

the flyers fans are lucky the former vet WAS disciplined and not ill with not fully controlled PTSD... otherwise they could have come out with broken necks.

Just because someone is a vet doesn't necessarily mean they are a hand to hand combat expert. He did attempt to defend himslef however and based on the video, he got his ass beat pretty soundly so that's certainly not the case.

thats for dam sure. the players arent nearly as invested as the fans are. the players whos jerseys were worn in the beating should be angry with their fans. id like to hear the players make a public statement to their trashy fans. they should start banning people from games if they are caught engaging in this type of behavior.

They do. But do you expect the Wells Fargo Center to start running criminal background checks at every gate?
