Default No love for the SIXERS ?

I've liked the Sixers on and off my entire life although I have to admit I was a big Bulls fan when MJ played.

No one ever gives the Sixers any credit. Local media barely talks about them. They have a youthful and fun team to watch. Doug Collins is working his way into Coach of the Year status. They only won 19 games total last year and are currently sitting at 35-33 and tied with the Knicks for the 6th seed in the East. FYI, they started the year 3-13 so they are tearing it up.

The improvements this team has made is amazing and watching them can be exciting. I've been to about 10 games this year and the tix are cheap. I just secured tix to the first round of the playoffs - good chance it will be LeBron & Co.

    How about some Sixer love?

They have to make it to the playoffs if they want attention. Since Iverson left, so did the MSM.

But enjoy it, as cheap tickets isn't a thing when the team becomes hot(See Phillies, Eagles)

I've been watching their games for the last couple of weeks now. Almost everyone on the roster is contributing. I only caught the first half of last nights game though. I went to real early.

Believe it or not, the 76ers are still my favorite Philly team. With that said, it doesn't look good for them.

They are a poorly-run franchise in a town that just doesn't like pro hoops. They haven't been relevant since Allen was here, and I don't think that's about to change dramatically anytime soon.

Don't be surprised if Comcast-Spectacor unloads the team at some point in the near future.

Not sure why this thread got bumped but I don't think they're sellable right now. Ticket sales were abysmal the past couple seasons ($10 tix), I don't know if it's true, but I think I heard they have a 20 year contract signed with Comcast Sportsnet. So a new owner wouldn't be able to shop that around, or create their own channel either. I agree with Mixiboi, they are moving forward and at least seem to have some likeable players which is pretty hard in todays NBA. They'd likely wait another 2-3 years until Drue Holiday possibly becomes a greater player & a marketable asset before the team has much value to sell.

I had forgotten about this thread until mixiboi bumped it. But just wanted to point out that I called the sale. Mr. Snider had been shopping this team quietly for awhile.

Ed Snider never really hid his love for the Flyers, he only bought the Sixers just so he could justify building the center for his Flyers.

Him selling them was a blessing for the team, as now they are still moving in that direction of winning(and it doesn't hurt that Will Smith is one of the owners).

The only people they weren't relevant to were bandwagon fans who only wanted to be entertained and don't know anything about basketball. Those of us real fans have always been die-hards of them, and me particularly I stopped watching because I'm sick and tired of the BS around the team. Lou Williams is the most overrated player in the league next to Rondo, because nobody in the media or in sports except the players and other people actually involved in the sport actually knows anything about the sport.

Iguodala is without a doubt their best player and has been the only reason they weren't in the lottery every year since he was drafted. Lou almost cost them the series against the Bulls (just like he did against the Heat) but the Bulls were too short-handed to give the Sixers the loss. They won't win a championship until they get rid of him. There's a reason they stopped winning and became an unstable team the second Andre Miller left.

You are right though, that this isn't a pro basketball city. It's more of a streetball and college ball city. It doesn't get any better than the Big 5.

Ed Snider never held that team back on purpose. He let them spend as much money as possible and get whoever they wanted.

Either way, the only way they move in the right direction is if they get rid of Lou and maybe even Doug Collins too because he's the reason Lou is able to lose them so many games.

Also, check out depressedfan.com. It's the only Sixers/basketball blog in the Philly area that isn't a disgrace, because it's written by somebody who actually knows and understands basketball, somebody who's probably been watching the Sixers his whole life.
