That is funny, she was just on TV too in a spot about food truck eating. She was talking about how she twitters where they'll be.
This was done at Love Park of course, which I thought was weird because I didn't know Trucks were allow on the sidewalk at Love Park.
Now I know.
This is the reason to pay attention to the details of legislation and regulation, rather than the self-congratulatory press releases written by its sponsors. The lack of clarity opens the door for arbitrary implementation and enforcement.
This one truly INFURIATES me. There is NOTHING the least bit business friendly in the City of Brotherly Love. If you are an entrepreneur, you are scr*wed from the get go. Not only do you have to pay for the privilege license, you have to chump a second year's estimated tax up front, in full.
I have paid far more business taxes in Philadelphia than I ever did in NYC. What really galls me is this City does not have enough business diversity and paying white collar jobs to even begin to support the housing/mortgages - and it bites you in the behind if you even try to set up a business.
In NYC, you are not even taxed on the first $75,000 of gross income = that in itself encourages most to be forthcoming with tax filings. Here, as an example, Union workers pocket cash over the weekends for "freelance" work and not one is reporting a single dime.
And in this situation, you have a intelligent individual who opted to walk away from a white collar position in order to pursue her creative/culinary dream. And for what - hassle, hassle, hassle...welcome to the world of Philadelphia's entrepreneurial nightmare.
Dummy ignores vending laws.
Dummy gets truck taken.
Dummy then acts like since she dosn't know about... oh wait she KNEW about the law, tweeted about violating it then acted surprised and shocked when she had her truck taken.
Here's the oh so hard to find law that took me about 20 seconds to find.
It's infurating to me that a lawbreaker gets sympathy when what she was doing was hurting LEGAL Businesses that follow the law.
He're the law and the logic of that law. Do you like U City dining? It was pretty much created by this ordinance as U City was overflowing with sidewalk vendors that depressed the value of any brick and mortar store.
Draft of the Proposed 'Vending Ordinance' - Almanac, Vol. 44, No. 15, 12/09/97 <--- with limits
On a Proposed Ordinance on University City Street Vending <--- Logic of ordinance
ad the actual law is readily available for viewing by the city.
Pleading ignorance of the law when you're a lawyer? Didn't you wonder why you were the only "roaming" vendor in Center City?
Why isn't everyone hawking thinks in trucks at love park? Maybe that's your first clue.
I'm not seeing all these supposed bikes in all these million dollar bike lanes.
My first clue is that no one at Penn knows the plural of "right of way."
I was wrong. She was outside the area.
WRONG I WAS WRONG>>>
see?
I'm not seeing all these supposed bikes in all these million dollar bike lanes.
I am in awe - some business person has to deal with the hassle of L&I among other business privilege issues, and because she is having problems, she has everyone feeling sorry for her? My family has dealt with these departments year after year and we have maintained our business - and no one ever felt sorry for us. I don't want people feeling sorry for us though - we just have to get business done. But she seems to like sympathy? Or maybe she just wants to live her dream and not have to deal with reality? Give me a break.
She has her customers who don't have an inkling of what needs to be in place to have a self employed business saying idiotic things. But hey, it's a free country and even idiots have a right to speak. But that does not mean she is in the right (I certainly am not a supporter of L&I either - but thousands of people have dealt with them for decades (people that freakin don't speak english even) and this lady is having problems - or maybe she is just not following the rules).
I do not have one ounce of sympathy for her. She has to deal with the business side of things just like everybody else. If she doesn't like it, she can go back to her corporate job and just shut the hell up about this already.
It's only a battle if you ingore the rules, then cry when caught.
I deal with the city all the time as a "citizen" and for work.
I've yet to ever have a problem that they caused over a problem I had that I went and tried to get them to ignore or deal with.
They have rules. THey aren't that unwieldy for what they are dealing with.
You can't make a one page "how to operate a business" guide.
Only idiots think you can do things with simple retard instructions. A certain guy in NJ is learning that right now.
You're selling food.
All the city wanted was.
Proof of health
Proof of taxes
Proof of license to operate.
and since a certain cupcake truck failed to do that whle violating several other ordinances.
We feel bad for her?
Yet we cry the city is broke. She was making it broke while benefitting directly from taxpayers via selling in a taxpayer funded park.
I'm not seeing all these supposed bikes in all these million dollar bike lanes.
If her dream was to open a truck to sell cupcakes and she doesn't like what she has to go through here in Philadelphia - then maybe Camden won't give her such a headache, or maybe Lancaster. She just needs to shut up already. What she is going through does not justify sympathy.
City gov't will always make it an uphill battle - sympathy is not needed, just take care of the paperwork. If you do stuff you shouldn't they will catch you.
