There are tons of chickens where I live, during the summer you can hear the roosters crowing.

    LOL Chicken Run!

I actually don't mind chickens and grew up with them. We have a few people who have chickens in their garden in South Philly. They don't seem to be bother and they do not escape.

Because of this operation, it has become evident that loose chickens are much more of a problem than anticipated, with captured chickens numbering in the thousands. Captured chickens are sold to farms in Homestead and the proceeds go to charities in the City (including the Mayor’s Holiday Celebration). The newly-formed Department of Code Enforcement continues this coordinated effort.

    • Total # of chickens caught, since April, 2003: 6427
    • Total amount of revenue from sold chickens since April, 2003: $10,650

    Necropost!

I'm guessing in the last year the law hasn't changed. I'm planning on getting one or two chickens for laying eggs. I have a large-ish back yard in GHo. I doubt they'll make noise enough to bother anyone.

i was doing a bit of research on backyard chickens and was disappointed that with my two dogs i wouldnt' be ablet o have them (the dogs would make dinner out of the chickens). then I realized that I could probably put the chickens in my side yard, which is fenced off from the dogs. Now i'm intrigued and want to learn more about raising chickens! i wonder if i could keep my neighbors quiet by bribing them with eggs.

Who wants to be awakened each morning by their neighbor's cock?

Who the heck revives 3 year old threads and keeps them going?

Isn't there a chicken store at 7th and Dickinson? Go get them there.

Don't chickens smell though? It's a great idea if you have the space. Why would the city object that's what i don't understand.

Your first question answers your second question.

Incorrect. Hens make a noise that sounds like dying children. It doesn't carry as far as a rooster's crowing but if you live within ten or twelve yards, it gets nerve-wracking.

I'm not necessarily opposed to this, but you really should be more upfront about the drawbacks.
