This just in from PAWS:

This is a desperate plea on behalf of homeless dogs who are running out of time at the city’s animal control shelter. Can you provide temporary foster care to a dog in need? Over the past few days, more dogs have come in than there is room for, and foster parents are urgently needed to save their lives. Innocent dogs are being killed NOW for lack of space. PAWS, the city shelter, and other rescues are working as hard as possible to save them, but dogs will continue to be killed until foster parents come forward in greater numbers.

Dogs of all kinds - large, small, young, and old - are in danger, and now is the time to save their lives. You can:

-foster a dog from PAWS’ Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic at 2900 Grays Ferry Avenue (like Ellie Mae, left, who is waiting patiently).

-rescue an animal directly from the Animal Care and Control Team (ACCT) facility at 111 W. Hunting Park Avenue.

Every animal fostered or adopted through PAWS enables us to rescue another from ACCT. If you've never fostered before, we can help you pick out a foster dog that fits your household and living situation. PAWS provides spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and basic veterinary care for all fosters, and we can also send you with some starter food and supplies. Foster parents are responsible for finding homes for their fosters, and we assist by providing adoption opportunities through special events and online listings. If you can help or have questions, please visit Foster - Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) or email robin@phillypaws.org.

Cat fosters are urgently needed, too! The shelter is full of cats and kittens whose lives are in danger, so contact sue@phillypaws.org if you can help.
