Default West Philly parents of young children

A group of parents in West Philly is starting a discussion about improving neighborhood public schools (inspired by the group in South Philly that is working on improving Jackson, http://www.philly.com/philly/education/90813459.html). Join the googlegroup to participate in this discussion--everyone interested in making our schools an asset to the neighborhood is welcome!

The notice below is reposted from another list:

As a West Philly parent of an infant, toddler or preschooler, are you
concerned about your choices for kindergarten and beyond? Do you want for your neighborhood school to be the best choice for your children? Do you want to start the hard work of closing the disparities in educational options in our West Philly neighborhoods?

Join the West Philly Coalition for Neighborhood Schools and lets talk
about what we can do to improve our neighborhood schools.

Parent involvement is certainly a major key to improve things in public schools. Maybe start with ideas or programs that you've seen or heard about at other schools that you like. Sometimes by having a list of what you want to see at your own schools gives the principal an idea of what to aim for next year.

Can you clarify if this is only West Philly - or the West District? That would also include parts of the NW (odd, I know). Thanks.

Because paying taxes is painful... but reading about them shouldn't be.

I posted a notice about this new group on my blog and it looks like you got a little bump in registrants hopefully as a result. Good luck and keep us updated on your work.
