Ah. I guess I'll be the pioneer then. I've never had Turkish food so I'm looking forward to it. Seems similar to elements of Greek and Middle Eastern.

interestingly (or not), kebabs were largely unknown in Istanbul at the time of turkey's founding. It wasn't until the arabs from eastern turkey migrated en masse from poor eastern turkey to the new nation's capitol of Istanbul (itself a derivative of the phrase itan poli or "to the city") did Istanbul get introduced to kebabs. Turkish food shares a lot in common with Greek food since the Ottomans ruled Greece for nearly half a millenium. to some extent, most of the mediterranean countries have some things in common, I mean, they've been trading and warring/conquering each other since long before western europe became civilized. I found the food to be good but i always forget that part of old city is even there.

Sorry to be picky, but the derivative is 'eis tin poli' which in Greek means 'to or towards the city' (as that was the main city in that region)
