I guess they just haven't taken it down yet.
I guess they just haven't taken it down yet.
125 is closed.
It will reopen later this month, but prob Oct. as Recess Lounge. From the concept they are going for...I wouldn't worry about problems.
?Recess Lounge, Old City?s newest addition, is predicted to revitalize the area?
“It will be Philadelphia's most exclusive playground,” say Michelle Miller of The Nouveau Image, the consulting/marketing firm handling Recess. The specific details are still being filled it, however, the club promises to be unlike any other."
LMAO
I'm weighing in. I've now lived exactly one year right near the corner of Front and Market, with a view of the EZ-Park lot.
SINCE we moved here, there've been no LESS than 3 shooting incidents RIGHT OUTSIDE MY BUILDING. Only in one of those cases was no one shot, but I heard a total of 15 shots, 7 or 8 then a pause, then another 7 or 8, and that was when someone on PB or maybe even here said that their parked car took some damage.
I no longer remember how many murders or injuries there've been, but in the 1 or 2 block radius of my place, there've been SEVERAL since we moved here.
We moved to Philly in 2005, and lived in NL first, but spent most of our time down here, so we moved closer in 2006, to Pier 3, and have been "around" in this neighborhood since then, and it's DEFINITELY different. In 2006, I walked home, alone, from Sassafras on 2nd st. at 2am...I wouldn't do that now...Because I've ACTUALLY HEARD THE GUNSHOTS, and more than once.
Just the crap that goes on in the EZ park lot is unbelievable. I finally called the cops last week because of what looked like a party gathering there, as opposed to just people partying, STILL, there after 2am, like they always do before they pour themselves into their cars and leave. THIS looked like it was almost planned, like maybe more people were going to come, and was loud as hell- they were blasting music out of the car with the doors open so they could dance in the lot- and I knew the longer they stayed, the higher the likelihood that something bad would happen. The cops did a "drive by" to check it out, but didn't break it up, it wasn't as bad when they saw it. They didn't get to see the two people dry-humping on the hood of the car while some stripper-type girl did stripper-type dance moves or the two guys pissing in unison, side by side, on the port-a-potty that's there.
Bob and I jokingly say we have to be home "before the witching hour" when we're out to dinner, but we're pretty much serious- we don't ever try to be coming home, because of where we live, between 12am-3am.
Goodbye, Philly, Hello, Portland, OR! (August 2010)
There should be anti-loitering laws in Old City. When crowds of intoxicated people congregate outside of bars, on sidewalks & in parking lots, bad things happen (fist fights, shootings & stabbings). Not to mention it is a big-time quality of life issue in the neighborhood.
Other cities like Chicago, Boston, Madison & San Francisco have taken measures to curb loitering in an effort to keep violence down and reduce sidewalk-obstructing crowds. If citations start being issued to loiterers, I imagine the situation will improve over time.
125 got sold off & the new owners closed it immedietly to redecorate (so I heard from the old owners).
How could you possibly redecorate that place, it's a two room shoebox. Maybe they are putting up bullet proof glass like a Chinese takeout![]()
While I don't expect them to say it's another run of the mill lounge in Old City and that it doesn't offer anything different. I would expect them to have been somewhat more creative and truthful in their wording. The only people who would believe anything that statement says would have to have more money than brains.
And more guns then brains
Aww, you have a fan MM.![]()
I dined at Cuba Libre the other day and did not noticed this "ghettoish" clientele some people talked about.
Can we go back and fully describe what ghetto and thuggish is? I may have a different "view".....

I would say normally you would have to be there on a Friday or Saturday night around 1pm to 3 am and venture over to the 2nd and Chestnut intersection. But two things are in play now, August and the first week of September are notoriously slow, second the police have really made their presence felt after the last shooting and stabbing.

Have you had any more problems with the EZ Lot in Old City lately? I had some issues with one of their lots and contacted them through their website and the owner got really offended.
