Default You know what Philly needed? More Fireworks

Those in Old city enjoy it EVERY FRIDAY for an entire month....

More Fireworks Than Ever Will Light Up The Summer Sky « CBS Philly

More fireworks than ever before will be lighting up the sky in Center City Philadelphia this summer.

Jodie Milkman, with the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, says, “This year we are introducing a free Friday night light fireworks program beginning Friday July 27th and every Friday night through the end of August. We have the Philadelphia Orchestra performing on that first Friday night on July 27th and then we have great smooth jazz summer night concerts every Friday night in August followed by fireworks.”

You can see the Camden Riversharks’ fireworks after games from the Philly side on the Race Street Pier beginning June 1st.

And during the Welcome America festivities there will be two fireworks extravaganzas: one on June 30th along Penn’s Landing, the other on the 4th of July along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

    Enjoy.

sounds good to me! The 4th is too crowded. I've always called philly the city of fireworks.

This is GREAT. I can see the Riversharks' fireworks from my bed (literally). It was a nice display the other week.

Cool! IMO, fireworks are one of the best things about Old City. It's fun to be able to just step outside during the summer and watch them. I used to be able to see them from my bedroom window too, but it seems like they've moved them further down (?).

I know that some folks have dogs that get freaked out by fireworks, but our cat is like Honey Badger. He don't give a s---. :-)

Fireworks of the Delaware River go back to at least 1778, when as show was done in connection with The Mischianza. Read about it in my book, Philadelphia's Lost Waterfront, issued in 2011 by the History Press (see Philadelphia's Lost Waterfront | Facebook)... My next book, by the way, will be about Northern Liberties (Northern Liberties, Philadelphia: A Brief History).

    Default Fireworks tonight?

Does anyone know what time the Friday night fireworks have been starting? I have a little guy who is very excited about it and it takes a bit of planning to get him up and ready on the roof deck. Since they are relatively short I don't want to miss half of it.

They are supposed to start about 9-9:15, but if it keeps raining like this, maybe not... :-(

They started a few minutes after 9. They lasted longer than I would have thought, and it was nice to have fireworks during a time kids could stay up for.

There was another round of fireworks at 10:30-11. How awesome is it that we can have fireworks twice in the same night?

Dartmo, glad you and your son got to see them. I missed both sets, waaah...my group was too busy talking and drinking wine, and we forgot to step outside.

I caught the fireworks last nite from Cavanaugh's Riverdeck. The Ben Franklin Bridge did it's light show too! Very cool!
Penns Landing was crowded last night with a concert @ Festival Pier.
And I don't know what was going on at the new place down there, Morgan's Pier--but it was mobbed outside. I'll have to check that place out another time.

O.A.R. was at Festival Pier, and there was another music/DJ festival all day at the Great Plaza. The official "afterparty" for the Great Plaza event was at Morgan's Pier...there was a huge line outside when I walked by around 10:30pm.

I like Morgan's Pier for happy hour...they have 1/2 price for almost all of their beers (including premium drafts and microbrews) from 5-7pm weekdays. It's good to see that place doing well, despite being run by Four Corners Management (Lucy's, Drinkers) it is a much nicer alternative to Cavanaugh's River Deck.

Don't they serve their draft beer in plastic cups? Blech.
