3rd Street Closed For A Month

I just looked photos of 3rd street between Market & Chestnut and it looks like there are still two huge holes and heavy equipment. Hasn't it been closed off to traffic for about a month now ? Somebody said it could closed until January.

I was going to post something but didn't get photos yet. Yeah, that's been like that for a week or more now. Looks like their doing major sewer work or something?!

It sucks. Last time I was up there, it wasn't closed off to car traffic until the middle of the block; cars kept driving in and having to turn around. At least they improved the 57 detour to go up 5th St instead of Front St, making MFL connection easier.

I feel bad for that umbrella store.

Yeah, the stores are getting beat over this. My friend works at the Irish Pol and said that business has definitely taken a hit. Bad time of year for this.

Must be a pain in the ass for food and beer deliveries. The one photo I saw there was a sign saying the parking lot was still open and right next to it was two water department employees sleeping in their truck. Apparently raw sewage has been leaking into the basement of Monkey Bar too.

I was joking about the umbrella store, it's never open and is in horrible condition, basically blight at this point.

oh... I thought he still had a decent wholesale business going out of there. Haven't really noticed.

There's also some, err, unmentionable businesses on that block that may be affected by this. hehehehe

Yea I think they do do wholesale, maybe exclusively at this point. That's no excuse for the condition of the storefront, which is always grated closed too. The whole west side of that block sucks, except for the National Mechanics building.

Ugh, I hope it doesn't take that long. We've been getting a lot of crazed, angry drivers trying to detour through Strawberry Street, where delivery vehicles are usually stopped.
