Default New Businesses in Old City

Saw this this morning on the 300 block of Market, not sure quite how new it is.

The grand opening special is free check cashing!

Finally some retail seeping over from Market East.

Incidentally, MTEMPLE, how is your campaign to shut down First Friday going?

Funny it's only been there for 20 years.

Their "Grand Opening" marketing campaign caught my eye, guess it's working.

They had closed for a few months, not sure why. I'm glad they're open again, though...it's a convenient place to get things notarized/faxed, etc..

I never thought of going there to get something notarized. It's probably the only place in OC i've never been in- That may now change.

You can get things notarized at the UPS store on N. 3rd, too, but the guy is only there at certain times.

I note that the subject is plural in the thread title. I will be watching this thread. Don't disappoint me.

Been there. never been to a check cashing place before though. It has danger written all over its facade.

It's an alarming facade to be sure. The only real danger is actually cashing a check there, and suffering shock and horror at the cost.

That place is pretty convenient. You can get PPA Smart Cards, money orders, pay bills free, get SEPTA tokens, gift cards for retail stores, send/receive a fax, cash a check (duh) etc. The bulletproof barrier is intimidating though.

I guess the old owner (Mike) and his son sold the place. There were both residents of Old City too.

Scotchrocks if you saw their clientele in the early 90s you would understand why they had bullet proof glass. They were also held up at least once in the late 90's and you should have seen the lines around the corner when Go Internet had their payday.

I like sitting in there and getting an amuse bouche of Septa tokens.
