Default Holy crap... first I'm hearing of this shooting at 4th and Pine...

    This is a bit disturbing...
Society Hill gunman stood over victim and fired | Philadelphia Inquirer | 11/08/2011

"Police, who are said to be reviewing surveillance video from the area, said the victim was shot about 11:20 p.m. on the 400 block of Pine Street, near Lawrence Court, following an altercation with the gunman and an alleged accomplice."

What on earth was this about? Altercation? Did the victim know the shooter?

I know! They sure as hell don't say much... and I talk to the officers in this area almost every day and haven't heard a thing about this.

Robbery? Seems more like a deliberate execution!

The Inquirer article references an "altercation" which could imply that these two know each other.

A botched robbery? I'm sure there's lots of worthless shells of human beings in Philly who will kill you for attempting to resist during an armed robbery. How about all those shop keepers who have been executed so far this year? And they didn't even try and resist. If the victim attempted to resist that may have been what was reported as the "altercation". Then the thug, confronted with a problem, did the only thing thugs know how to do when they confront problems: any one of a combination of kill/beat/rape and then run away.

I believe it said he fell to the ground before being stood over and executed. Therefore, its possible he fell to the ground as a result of resisting a robbery.... or it can be one of a million other things that happened.

Admittedly, its a little weird that its not getting anymore coverage. Usually when things happen in Center City its all over the news. Given the low exposure, I can see it being some weird thing between people who knew each other: two guys got into a fight, one pushed the other and then drew a gun. You never know, so this is all conjecture...

Exactly--the random crimes that happen, particularly shootings, get lots of coverage. Things that are quieter oftentimes have the element of victim and suspect knowing one another or other salacious aspects to them.

Police Incident Report November 8, 2011
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A SHOOTING INCIDENT AND VICTIM LAST NIGHT IN THE SOCIETY HILL AREA.

    On Monday, 11/07/11, 11:22 PM,
6th District officers responded to numerous 911 calls for gunshots and a report of a shooting in the 400 block of Pine St. Officers arrived within 2 minutes and found an unconscious male lying on the ground at Pine St. and Lawrence Court with a gunshot wound of the chest. Officers placed the male in a patrol car and expeditiously transported him to Jefferson Hospital ER where he was initially listed in critical condition. He was later upgraded to stable condition.

The area was cordoned off as a crime scene and Central Detectives arrived to process the scene for evidence and initiate an investigation. A witness was located and interviewed and related that a gunshot was heard and two males were seen running north on 4th St. from Pine St. and a male was lying on the ground. The witness called 911. Video surveillance was located at a residence in the area and it showed 2 males (offenders) walking west in the 400 block Pine St. stopped and got into an altercation with the victim, during the altercation the victim was seen to fall to the ground. One of the offenders walked over to the victim and fired a shot at him, both offenders then fled east on Pine St. then north on 4th St.

The offenders were described as white males, #1-6'-6'2", 170 -180 lbs, wearing a black hooded sweat shirt under a shiny black vest and blue jeans, he was armed with a handgun, #2-5'9", 150 lbs, wearing all dark clothing. The motive for the attack has not yet been determined, the victim has not been interviewed due to his condition. Nothing appears to have been taken from the victim. Detective and 6th District officers are in the area today looking for additional witnesses and possible video footage of the incident. Uniformed patrols in the area have been bolstered as well as plainclothes (undercover) officers assigned to the area. No other similar incidents have been reported in the area.

If it was two white guys how much you wanna bet it was some drunken dbags walking back from a bar/club? Shades of DiDonato anyone? Only with the roles switched this time.

But if it was so random I still wonder why there wasn't more coverage.

No, it shows how they assume all crime in this city can be blamed on just one segment of the population. Some reporter probably saw "black hooded" and thought "black hood."

NBC says the robbery was motive and it was two black males, one wearing a black hoodie. Any chance the investigators press release is the one in error? Maybe they'd have a better chance finding the perps if they could clear this up quick.

Nope, because on another news show the officer said white or light skinned hispanic male....Which makes it even more confusing....

If a perp isn't black, the powers-that-be sure do get screwed up rather quickly, don't they? The differences in these reports are unexcusable. I think Ms. Swan from Mad Tv would be more accurate:

Uh oh... now now... I think they divided it up to keep the trannies out. That area is now Washy West...err, something like that.

On a serious note-my friend was held up there around july/august but she fought the guy off and the cops caught the guy. Pretty sure that guy was hispanic. That area seems to get some action; maybe because it is relatively dark?
