    Default A New Market Coming

When I was in Old City last week I noticed a sign in the window of Havana Lofts (2nd & Vine) saying that Torch-Wood Market is coming soon. At least that's what I think the name was. Any info ?

After a few conversations this is starting to sound like a Gianni market. He is the one that opened the market on south 2nd.

Havana Lofts my husband really liked those places. I totally did not to start with something about walking up all those steps with groceries, the construction seemed bad, etc. Ok, back to the Torch Wood Market conversation. I suppose a market in that area would be good for the people around there.

I guess but Sassafrass Market is only a block away.

Count your lucky stars you didn't buy into an Atid property.

What is an Atid property? Or maybe I don't want to know! I was thinking that too Sassafrass is not too far away.

I think you know were we ended up buying and yep we are very happy it worked out great. You may have heard this before. My husband always wanted to be in Old City. After 5 years of looking we finally narrowed it down to Old City or Logan Square. I really liked Logan Square. My husband won got his way and I'm glad he did. Within a few weeks of moving in I knew it was the right location for us. Even almost 4 years later I can still say I am so happy with the move love OC area and the city.

    .
Atid is the biggest slumlord in Old City. When he purchased the Tobacco Loft building from Northbridge LP he did a "clean up" and tried to sell them as condos and changed the name to Havana Lofts. He wouldn't fix anything, when he couldn't sell he started to rent to anyone with the money and had some illegal businesses there. Some of the few people that actually purchased a unit have been in the process of suing. Recently he purchased the Papermill Apartment buildings on 2nd street.
You can find countless horror stories about them on the web.

I recall the Havana Loft horror stories. Some storeis were posted here or maybe it was Philly Blog. Of course, I had to point them out to my husband see what we could have gotten ourselves into! Did not realize Atid was the name of the property management company though. Thought you might have spelled something wrong or were trying to tell us you were choking on an Altoid.

Market is due to open in Oct. I live nearby, and suspect I'll find a use for it in spite of Sassafras being so close, especially when the temperature drops. Now if someone would open a nice little breakfast place in the old Lite Bite, I'd be one satisfied resident.

Thanks for the info. As the food from the old Lite Bite was VERY greasy diner I always liked the quaint nostalgic feel when eating there. They also had rocket fuel for coffee . A small little diner again would be great and hopefully before the building falls down. What did the owner do to it, stripped the whole outside an left ?

Correction on opening day, which I was told this morning is 9/30--this Friday. Shelves are being stocked with typical convenience store wares.

Re Lite Bite, my girlfriend and I have fantasized about opening up a small cafe there, but it would cost a small fortune at this point to renovate. About 3 years ago all of the old fixtures were removed, and the interior and exterior were gutted 6 mons ago. It's a sad little shell at this point.

I love Sassafras but they are expensive. Maybe the stores will get into a price war. :-)

I look forward to checking out the new market. When walking by yesterday, I met the proprietor and she was very nice.

As for Lite Bite, turning it back into a diner/cafe would be a dream come true for many. johncage, I wholeheartedly support you and your girlfriend turning this place into a cafe.. you'd be neighborhood heroes!

I miss Snow White big time, but have turned to Mrs. K's to fill the greasy spoon void.

I've been hoping the same thing for Olde City Food Market and Liberty Bell Market! So far, no such luck.

You better do it. He's still mad about ruining a pair of shoes walking the Loft District.
