    Default Former CEBU location

    From the OCCA.

123 Chestnut Street - (former Cebu / World Fusion location)
The City has, apparently, issued an over-the-counter food-use permit, even though the use had been vacated over three years ago. The new operator/manager is Jean Jecques Didier LaFontant, formerly of Cube Libre. The attorney handling the liquor license issues is Ed McHugh. Mr. McHugh was interested in bringing a liquor license form outside Old City, but the Committee suggested that Mr. McHugh try harder to secure a local license. To that end, the Committee supplied a list of available licenses. On June 9th we received word that Ed McHugh had located an Old City liquor license for this location.

Why does he get an exception, I wonder?

Remember when you wondered why no one reopens night clubs on Delaware Ave.

The review you seem to want of this project is why.

We'll all see the firestorm when this place attempts to dare open a nightclub in the nightclub district.
I'm not seeing all these supposed bikes in all these million dollar bike lanes.

When did MTEMPLE wonder that? I think you're confused, as usual. You are the one who keeps saying all the nightclubs were moved.

As for the Cebu location, since there were a lot of problems when it was a nightclub, including someone getting shot, of course we would be wary if the new owner tried to have a nightclub there again. Hopefully he will be a better neighbor than that.

I don't think it's right that the City broke its own rules for this one guy.

The City breaking it's own rules in order to make the $$ on taxes and fees? Shocking, just shocking I say!

I never did. I'm convinced he works with electricity.

If that was the reason, why are Charlie's and the owners of the old Molly's having a hard time getting food-use permits?

I'm curious to see what his plans are for this space.

That's the applicant, yes, but the applicant is one of the former partners in Cuba Libre. If what they're going for is another Cuba Libre, count me in. There are plans to have a decent CLA in place, but the CLA is only good if it is enforced.

BTW, I agree with fossil driver... it's a beautiful space, and a shame that it isn't in use. If the applicant wants to open a restaurant (and by restaurant, I mean establishment that actually serves food, instead of one of those directly across the street that is routinely out of every single food item on their menu), I'm all for reopening it. One of the things I love about Old City is being walking distance from so many great places like Han Dynasty, Race Street Cafe, Farmicia, Fork and the quirky European Republic.

The applicant managed 32 Degrees, a nightclub. A manager of 32 Degrees, not a Cuba Libre owner. Yes, 32 Degrees is owned by and associated with Cuba Libre but not in a good way. The applicant has not disclosed any restaurant plans to the press. It is safe to plan on Cebu/World Fusion returning to it's long history as a problem nightclub if allowed to open.

Here is a recent stabbing of a 16 year old at 32 Degrees. You can look forward to this returning to the Chestnut Street location. http://www.philadelphiaspeaks.com/fo...2-degrees.html

Here is the shooting associated with Allen Iverson at Cebu/World Fusion in 2003 Wounded Iverson friend testifies Larry Robinson says he did not see the shooter - or the basketball star - at the moment he was wounded. - Philly.com

I don't think the Iverson-related shooting took place at Cebu/World Fusion. Previous stories report it took place in front of Glam, where the bullet casings were found.

Iverson associate shot near bar Police say the Sixers star, who was in the vicinity of the club where the shooting occurred, is not suspected of wrongdoing. Iverson associate is shot outside Phila. nightclub - Philly.com

Not to say that I don't share your trepidation, cautious123. I guess we shall see.

Iverson was shot at outside of Glam. He was a regular in the VIP.

Also, there were mutliple shootings all over the city this weekend in a viariety of neighborhoods.

    People cause crime. Not restaurants.

Fight started in World Fusion/CEBU. Iverson and his "posse" left first. Gunman followed after delay of retrieving gun, stopped in Glam thinking they went there next. Gunman saw them instead across street at parking lot next to Cafe Spice. Gunman fired in that direction then fled southbound like a coward.

You have proven repeatedly you are an idiot Desolate so I can't believe I am responding to you. However, Nightclubs which allow drunken violent behaviour to escalate do cause violence. Much like your parents copulating extended the lifespam of their defective genes in an even worse mutation. Please spend more time in the thug nightclubs, it will help speed your Darwin dictated demise.

Both the former Cebu location and the former Glam location have applications for liquor licenses posted. I understand Glam is the same operator who ran it when it was shut down last time.

Who cares who was shot- the fact is that the shooter was a known OC scumbag that was allowed to operate in the neighborhood because of certain scumbag owners. Unless those owners found any sense of reality, the same world exists. Of course Destitute is ok with it since his port fishington crapmunity has dealers on every block- but if I'm going out? I don't need a dozen Camden jerkoffs asking if I need weed while drinking overpriced drinks with my date.

So right loveisnoise ... more crap nightclubs because that area of Old City hasn't been maxed out yet on crap nightclubs yet .. we absolutely need more of those kinds of places in our neighborhood! Because we all know .. that's what real economic development is all about .. more of the same crap!
