I believe this place is going back to Swanky Bubbles. I ate here last week and asked about the Sheer signage. The staff said that the "Bar Rescue" changes were not all accepted and they were back to their original menu. I never got to see the old "Flinstone" bar, but the new one looked decent. Personally, I think a menu update is a great idea with half the menu being (mediocre) sushi and there being an abundance of sushi in Old City.
Has anyone ventured into Downey's since it was "rescued?"
I spoke to Swanky Bubbles yesterday. They said the name was changed for a show, but within a month the new signage is going back up with the Swanky Bubbles name.
Both stupid names.
I understand going on a show to get PR but if they change their name back, doesn't that defeat the purpose? Or did they get free stuff out of it?
I hate their food.

Did anyone besides bachelorette parties actually go in there?

On Bar Rescue, supposedly they studied the demographics of Old City, because they thought that's who the patrons were/would be.
I was there once years ago (thought their sushi was kind of bleh), and I know of one other Old City resident who had been...but that's it. It probably was all Jersey bachelorette parties keeping them barely afloat.
Did the episode go on TV?
Edit: nevermind I found it:

Bar expert Jon Taffer attempts to breathe new life into failing Philadelphia champagne bar Swanky Bubbles. To accomplish that, he'll need to deal with a playboy owner, a sprawling menu and the worst bar layout in America. (56:42)

Heh. I was eating at Q BBQ a couple of months ago, and the waitress recommended we go to Swanky Bubbles afterward. I, having seen the episode, pointed out that there were probably better options to spend our night, and she immediately launched into this tirade against the show, about how her boyfriend was a bartender there, and the TV show was so edited and fake and nothing like how the bar actually was, etc.
Reality TV is hardly ever "real," but, well, here we are.
