Not sure how I didn't see/hear this. I was walking out of my friends bar around 2am across the street. However I did see two other arguments on just a short walk around the corner.

BTW: sorry about the title..was more worried about posting the link!

Reporting on violence in old city seems to be dependent upon what the "victim's" daddy does for a living these days.

Jeez, that was nuts. I wonder how long it took anyone to call the police. That guy in the black shirt/khaki pants looked like a real prick. Came back more than once, even after the victim was knocked out.

And once again, we have no idea what happened.

The "victim" ran into the parking lot to fight. What words were exchanged? We don't know. What I do know is that the "victim" is a Philadelphia Police Officer's son, which is why the edited and photoshopped video ended up on the Philadelphia Police youtube site that is generally reserved for the "10 most wanted video fugitives"; all of which are normally armed robbers.

This stuff happens every week in old city-and the rest of town. The kids were hopped up on cheap booze and decided to fight. They all ran into the parking lot on their own free will. I've seen things like this so many times through the years. What happens? The police say, "we can't do anything, we didn't see it, if we press charges it won't go anywhere". Yet, now that it is a police officer's son? Pull out all the stops and get this bad man.

The victim was chased by a group of guys, no? Not sure a dude looking to fight a group would run to a certain area to fight...doesnt make sense. Hopefully the Police do this more when they have good footage like this.

The full video shows the `victim running into the parking lot punching other people, the a break where is yelling back at the guys, then he is sucker punched.

I respectfully invite anyone to carefully view the police youtube footage. the kid was not being jumped or anything. he had no visible connection to another guy getting jumped, other than to run in and decide to fight. he was in no way the person getting jumped to begin with.

actually, something just occurred to me and I watched the police youtube video again. the 'victim' was no part of the fight until HE, yes he, sucker punches someone from behind at about 58 seconds into the video. that is when everyone switches focus to him.

It's a bit more complicated now that I looked at it frame-by-frame.

:53 is when they enter the scene and the whole group is focused on the heavier white guy with the black shirt and jeans, they're backing him up into the EZ Park on the driver's side of the SUV. The bystander next to the SUV isn't moving because there's 4 mooks plus the two other guys. It's kind of difficult to judge what to do with a situation like that rolling right up to you.

It's at 1:00-1:03 when the victim actually enters the scene and he's chasing after a guy that was after the dude in the black shirt, that's when the victim strikes him in the head from behind. Once he did that, well, he just got everybody refocused on him. The victim was actually chasing the guy he struck in the back of the head, so there seems to be more that happened around the corner than what's on the video here.

This victim was literally asking for it. If I was involved in a kerfuffle like this I would certainly not jump in and hit anyone like this, even with beer muscles. That's crazystupid with that many mooks either coked out or drunk or both.

Where did you discover that the "victim" here is the son of a PPDO?

I will admit, I have encountered the adult male children of several PPDO's and lets just say that it's not hard to bring out a cavalier attitude. I've actually heard the words "I own this city" and "my dad's a cop" uttered from some of these cretins. I'm not disparaging all the children and families of PPDO's, but I will point out that some of these adult children try to hide behind their father's badge, and it could have colored this victim's attitude which could have started the situation, or made it worse.

On KYW's video-they mention it 3 or 4 times in a minute and a half segment.

Meanwhile, they edited the video to make it look like he was completely innocent.

And yeah, it's really odd that the Philadelphia Police Department went to all the trouble of editing this security cam video and then the 25-50 minutes uploading it on YouTube.

There's no firearm involved and nobody was murdered. And this video winds up in a space where the PPD normally posts Philly's Most Wanted. This is just a bar brawl. Bar fights wind up in Jefferson's ER all the time and the PPD barely gets more than a report if the PPDOs did not witness the assault or interrupt it in progress.

This is on KYW? It's just an assault. With hands; no weapon.

Exactly. This kid is already out of the hospital and doing fine. I've seen waaaaaay worse through the years with nothing being done and no videos attempted to be obtained by adjacent businesses.

It has been on every major and minor news outlet, as well as philly.com. Once again, I'll leave it to you as to why this story is such a big deal.
