Second And Market Getting A New Building, Chance At Life | NakedPhilly

Landmark Architectural Design (the guys behind South Philly’s Pretzel Factory) are working on the new six-story building at 241, 243 and 245 Market Street next to Lucy’s, which was recently purchased with new plans in place.

From the plans we can see the exterior will be stone veneer and the window-laden front of the building will be a sign of Old City treating itself to some new spring clothes (with Revolutionary House going in across the street). Groundbreaking is expected in the next few months.

I'm a bit confused. By the rendering it looks as if the vacant space is still there, although I believe it's the vacant lot on which this will be built? Or is the vacant lot going to be the parking lot, and they are going to knock down one of the existing buildings to put up the 6 story mixed use building??

Image 1 fronts Market, Image 2 is the back- it is set back a bit from the alley to accomodate its own little lot in front of the garage doors, and next to it is an existing gravel lot belonging to the other property on the east.

While I'm not one of the people who claim surface parking lots are the scourge of our time I won't mind seeing this one go.
