Was there a fire there last night? Anyone know what happened?
Don't know, just saw broken windows and a pile of debris piled on the sidewalk with a piece of wood charred. Owners and workers were around, but I didnt want to get to close or bother them with questions. Looks like they had enough to deal with. Ashame. food is great and they r so friendly. I hope the damage is not to extensive. I didnt get a good look inside.
La Locanda Del Ghiottone Burns at Phoodie.info: The New Food And Drink Blog For Philadelphia
One of our very favorite restaurants in the whole city, La Locanda Del Ghiottone in Old City, fell victim to fire last night. As of early this morning, we don’t have further details, but we’ll update as we do. Our thoughts are with the owners and staff of Locanda Del Ghiottone at this time.
I hope they can repair it quickly, with iron works closed now, that area of
3rd street is looking really sad.
Iron works officially closed already? Is that why I saw people with iron works t-shirts working out at Sweat last night?
fleur was never really open. that place seemed confused.
Happened around 3:15 - our fire alarms were tripped because of it.
It smelled like an electrical fire and the firemen were going to town on the brick archway that separates the kitchen from the dining room.
Couldn't tell how bad things were this morning - I feel awful for Simone and Francesca.
My husband wanted to take me there on our first date, but we had a concert to get to (Primus, hey it was 1997) and we couldn't wait. I remember the owner claiming he had the only authentic Italian restaurant in the US. heh. We did end up going back.
Place hasn't been the same since Giuseppe died
Crap... I've been meaning to go to this place. Hope they survive.
I hope they come back too. One of the few remainig decent places to go to in OC. And, while the style of food has changed over the years, it's still good. Homey kind of place where you can enjoy a meal with your own wine. A place where you can bring your friends and family to without being embarrased by what's happening outside on the street.
You are delusional. The reason why 'north of market' is truly quiet? Because a lot of it is still sh&t from long gone supply businesses or existing wholesale businesses that sell crap. In between there's some great restaurants that you putter over for your own woe is me. Now it is your turn. Let's hear about how liquor licenses are kicking out 'legitimate' businesses.
?? Don't understand your point at all. I never say woe is me .. I like it on the north side. Don't care about the empty places because when the economy turns back, those places will fill. We don't need any more liquor licenses as long as we have byob's. What's wrong with that? La Locanda, bless them, is a perfect example. Good food, reasonable prices, and no a...h...s when you exit. You can have your cake and eat it too. Jekyll can stay north, Mr. Hide can have all the knocked out, booze addled fun he wants on the south side. Sounds like a perfect solution to me. Viva La Locanda .. may they stay in our quiet side of the neighborhood .... just the way we like it!
