    Default Club 27 problems

"Does anyone else who lives in the vicinity of Club 27 (on Bank Street) have serious concerns about the safety issues it creates? Something occurred outside the club last night (I am not sure what since I was in my apartment), but the cops came, a woman was screaming, and this morning there was blood all over Bank Street. This is not the first time something like this has happened. There are routinely assaults and fights outside this club, and there has been at least one stabbing. Furthermore, the club's noise level and the mess created by the crowd are unfathomable, and there are underage drinkers getting alcohol poisoning and vomiting and/or passing out outside on a nightly basis. I have lived on Bank Street for almost 6 years and until recently was relatively tolerant of its nuisance. However, when I have to dodge puddles of blood and vomit during my morning dog walk, enough is enough. I am interested in staging a formal neighborhood movement against Club 27, whether it be for more police presence, more L & I inspections, in support of noise violation fines, or as a collaborative nuisance suit. Please let me know if anyone is interested in doing something about this place."

Man, that place is a mess. Every weekend when I walk by I see some type of crap. On Saturday there was a bouncer yelling that he was going to "kick some #ss". Real professional, and it really doesn't help any situation.

I think a large majority of the problems with club 27 would be cleared up if the underage issue was taken care of and if an occasional cop walked by just to be seen by the crowds congregating on Bank st later in the evening. I've never gone inside, but just from observation of the people hanging around outside the club around 2am I suspect if the "18 to party 21 to drink" events that occur every weekend were to halt, you would see an improvement. I've always been shocked that the place hasn't gotten raided more often then it has for underage drinking.

OTOH the tow truck drivers must love that place, they seem to tow a couple cars every weekend night as a result of club goers who decide to park in the resident's surface lots near by.

There is no incentive to fix any of the problems South of Market Street. In fact, it's the opposite! MTEMPLE .. there are many people interested in fixing the problem as a whole, not just Club 27. It will be tough to organize because you have organizations like the OCD who do more harm than good with their so called "business friendly" policies, like actually fighting the OCCA over liquor license applications and wanting to remove certain zoning code restrictions that have helped the neighborhood North of Maket Street stay relatively sane for all these years (until 401 Race Street, however .. but that's another story of being penny wise and pound foolish). However, I for one, am behind you and wish you luck in organizing a neighborhood movement. This kind of thing is ruining Old City and giving the neighborhood a very big black eye. It's become a cesspool down there. I have outlined the solution in previous posts on other threads, but your neighborhood movement idea is just my cup of tea. It's an election year don't forget. The taxpayer deserves better.

Without rehashing the conversation that I've read on a half dozen other OC threads, I think MTEMPLE has the right idea in going after a specific bar for specific violations/issues which are committed inside the bar (consumption of alcohol by minors), or by bar staff (I have personally seen bouncers throw someone down onto the street, hows that for calming things down?) and not just the patrons actions alone occurring outside somewhere else. These are two different sort of problems in the minds of many people, and the latter is almost certain to be ignored.

Out of curiosity does anyone know exactly how they're able to allow under 21 to enter? Is this one of those 'promoter rents out a bar' type deals?

No, Shampoo as well as some other clubs use to do it. You just need need a separate drinking area. By law you are supposed to have chaperons but no one does.

Club 27 is one of those places that gets really obnoxious with the bass levels. My building shares the block with them (and possibly a wall, I suspect), and there are some weekend nights I can't even hang out in my living room because of it.

I went ahead and signed up on Everyblock so I can get in touch with the person who posted that discussion.

Had to call in a complaint against Club 27 already; that is some seriously loud sh*t going on.

If they are going to be this loud it's usually not until 11 or so. Guess they decided to get an early start tonight.

Not that I'm defending boneheaded overly aggressive bouncers, but sometimes douchie drunk patrons get so out of hand looking for a fight that you have no choice but to, literally, throw them out.

Vast majority of their patrons are under 20
