so we finally made it down to the new park. it's nicely done, though for all the design elements, the most important decision was to buy mature trees as there was plenty of shade on a hot day. there was a nice breeze as well. the guys blasting music (dj) at the entrance was unwanted but on the whole, it seems like a nice place to relax outside in the summer. maybe they can bring some professional landscaping to penn treaty as well. they haven't yet started on the race st connector and from a septa perspective, we found it easier to get to/from the 43 at spring garden than penn's landing. we'll be back sometime. one thing I'd recomend is that when they schedule juggling stuff during the summer for families, bear in mind that 2 pm is the hottest part fo the day.

I was just speaking to someone that said they were welding a bar on the bottom of the railing to make the gap smaller that some where worried about. I have no idea if it was fact.
I jogged to the pier and back not too long ago, and it is a beautiful pier, well done. It was so hot that I had to stop @ a store on Washington Ave on the way back to drink about 3 bottles of water....but...it was a nice jog.
It was cool watching the 'ducks' going into the water, however, I don't think I would ever go on one of those...took a few pics of the pier and posted them on FB and people agreed that it was a very nice pier![]()

Additional metal rail appears to be all around the bottom of the railing along the river. You can tell because it is white. I assume they might paint it black like the rest of the rail. This morning around 6:30 am the construction crew was removing their boat. This is the boat they used to work on the pier in the river. Sad to see it go I got used to seeing those construction workers early in the morning. No construction this morning meant the gate was closed until 7 am boo!
BTW, the new convenience store seems like a nice addition.
If you want to see the construction workersthey are now working on the connector, digging stuff up.

Ha ha I use Race Street all the time already know all those construction workers! I'm not checking them out I am a married woman! I like knowing they are there early in the morning. The Race Street Pier guys were really friendly you could tell they were excited about the pier project too. Race Street connector guys are cool too the one guy jokingly offered me a job I guess because I like to be out early. The construction workers at Sugar house were alright. One morning I tripped over my own two feet in front of the casino construction. I was covered in enough blood to look like I murdered someone and they still made sure I was alright.
So.... I'm beginning to think they should have completed the Race Street Connector BEFORE completing the pier. I've been noticing lots of people walking along Race street to-and-from the pier, many families and young kids. They have to navigate the construction and crazy motorists. its pretty perilous. My guess is that this early popularity is an indication this area will become even more popular than many imagined, especially after the maintenance building is repurposed. (after that, surely the pier across from the park).
On a side note, I crossed paths with Sarah McEneaney one day as she was walking with her dog to the pier.

supersupper, I kinda agree with you. Hopefully the connector will be done soon before someone gets hit. Call me safety patrol or tell me to mind my own business! I have started telling people they are going to get hit when I see them walking Race Street in the street. Unfortunately, tourists forget common sense sometimes. After seeing a woman and two young kids walking down the middle of Race Street on a week night I decided I had to speak up. The construction will be done and the bums gone soon I hope.
KIDDING !!!!!!!!!!
No one is necessarily to blame for the mess that's happening, its a pretty dicey situation. Maybe there needs to be better signage regarding detours, for motorists as well as pedestrians. I myself confess to being a yellow tape crosser (and many a person has called me a bum).

I know you are kidding!
I cross to the other side of Race with no construction. If work is not going on I'll go through the construction area. For me it is kind alike a trail run!
I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with the bum once the connector is done.
So Alley, do you know the story regarding the tree ?
I find it odd they routed the concrete curbs around the tree, leaving maybe less than 3ft of space right in front of the entry steps to the house immediately facing it. I remember watching them cut the roots to make room for the contour (though I did not know thats why they were doing it).
Surely it's going to die or tip over, no?

Nope I don't know the tree story. I did notice the houses now have 3 inches of sidewalk wondered what might be the end result there. I'm hoping those cars will not be allowed to park there on the walkway anymore. At a meeting about a year ago someone told me the cars would not be parking there anymore it was illegal.
