    Exclamation MAYFAIR, blind woman raped

    MAYFAIR - November 29, 2009 (WPVI) -- A 50-year-old blind woman was beaten and raped in her own home Sunday afternoon in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, according to police.

    Police were called out to the woman's home at around 5:00 p.m.

    They say the blind victim was entering her home when she was approached from behind by one or two men.

    The suspect or suspects forced the woman into her home and beat and raped her. The one or two men then took off.

    Police say the inside of the home was ransacked.

    Which is it, Mayfair or Holmesburg? The badly-written story seems to say it was in Holmesburg and not in Mayfair.


    I would like to know on which particular block this was... doubt that detail will get released.

    That's right at Cottman and Torresdale. Oh why am I not surprised.

    BTW 2 years ago there was a holdup at the Boston Market right there. Employees were locked in the freezer waiting for PPD and PFD to come let them out.

    I drove past a Fox news van this morning at the corner of Bliegh and Torresdale....and the "bar" they showed in the morning newscast looked like the bar at that same corner.....so Im assuming it took place on the 7300-7400 block of Torresdale Ave.

    Regardless of where this took place the hair on the back of my neck stood up as I drove by the news van....

    hope they catch these ba$tards... Horrible.. Like meat said, this area has always been bad. My wife and Son almost got car jacked last year at the dukin donuts there.. I used to rent a garage there for one of my cars for years there.. It been in a downward spiral for 20 years there..

    I hope they dont catch the bastards...at least not in one piece....

    What D&D are you talking about near there? Oh yeah the one at Cottman & Torresdale.....I dont goto that one.....I wont even goto the Citizens bank down a little further even though its closer to me....they have one of those man-traps with a metal detector....

    It's a real shame what has happened to that neighborhood. Back in the late 70's I delivered newspapers in that neighborhood. I can't imagine too many people that hang out there can even READ a newspaper nowadays

    As we discussed elsewhere yesterday, 98% of rape victims know their attackers. And people frequently target those who they preceive to to be easy targets -the elderly and handicapped- when they decide to commit a crime.

    Yep, actually I just heard the news on the radio driving home and they said that it is very possible that the victim knew her attackers OR the attackers were acquaintances of her family members (that used to live with her). They did say that they were looking for specific things and that the sexual assault was opportunistic. So....all in all, it was NOT a random burglary.....at least that's some good news.
