Default How is the SEPTA strike affecting your commute from NE to CC?

Well, my experience today was an utter disaster. I got to work OK (took the R7), but getting back was a challenge. There were huge lines at the Suburban station, so my husband decided to pick me up. As soon as I walked out, all the streets in CC were totally gridlocked. I actually walked to Delaware Ave and Spring Garden (in high heels) so that we wouldn't get stuck in traffic! I have NO IDEA what to do about tomorrow.........
Did anyone take the regional rail??? How long did you wait to actually get on the train????

I couldn't telecommute today I had to go to Center City, but I live too far from the R7 to use it unless I want to walk all the way through Tacony to get to Mayfair. That's an OK walk going toward the river because it's all downhill, but it would be impractical (and long) going the other way. It would be like walking the length of Center City several times.

A friend of mine in G-town drove over here, picked me up and we took the shortcut to Center City...

Take the Blvd to Hunting Park Ave then cut through Olney and the ghetto, past the Tastykake factory, and then River Drive. There was very little traffic since most people in the DelVal don't know about that route. Not that many stoplights, either.

The problem is that I really don't want to drive to CC....All the parkings around my office start at $18......I may take the R7 at the crack of dawn and figure out my way back......And wear sneakers this time.
But that is a great route. Will definitely try it next time I drive.

It sucks..my husband owns a restaurant in the food court at Liberty Place and he had to go pick up all his employees today so they could get to work.

I think Septa needs to get back to work...Too many people I know have had to take paycuts due to the economy to keep their jobs...they need to be thankful to have a job. Pay raises may have been expected before the economy tanked but now you have to make concessions - suck it up!

WHy don't you take the Tacony Bridge and find some place to park and take the River Line? I bet there are places on the River Line where you can find free parking.

You can transfer to PATCO at Walter Rand and get all the way into Rittenhouse that way.

By the way, parking on the RIVERLine is free at all stations, except Trenton.

There is a RiverLine station right in Palmyra... isn't that perfect?

Just drive to Jersey and transfer to PATCO at Walter Rand.

Got a ride to work by the ol' man, took a taxi home.

If I didn't have so much equipment to cart around for my job, I would have gladly walked home from Center City this evening; the weather was beautiful.

PLEASE SEPTA go the hell back to work!! I never take SEPTA but every friggin idiot that can't drive worth a $hit was on the roads today!! These idiots have not been on the roads since the last strike is the problem! I saw some driving today that I could not believe. I wish I had a rocket launcher on the front of my car. I work off hours so I generally don't hit any traffic to and from work but the roads were packed and 95 had a TON of taxi cabs on it both ways. Seems a lot of people took taxi to and from work. They are working without a contract right? Maybe the government should just take it over and fire them all. They would drop that strike card in a second!

If this strike gets to Day 10, I will take some of my housing money and get a P.O.S. car and use it to get to the RiverLine.

And I will kiss SEPTA goodbye forever.

Oh chill MM.. it's only temporary.
Lord knows this city's had strikes before.
We managed.
We moved on.

As for me, I can get a ride to work if I need it.
Ya just gotta be less "dependant" on others, it lowers the stress level.

Have some tea.

Supposedly, the are resuming talks tomorrow. We'll see about that....
PATCO sounds interesting....although free parking may be an issue if everyone else gets the same idea. This whole thing is a disgrace. I may have to ditch Septa from now on too.....Just think about all the money they are loosing by striking! I am just glad I didn't buy a monthly trail pass. I would be out of over $100!

Yeah I had no choice really but to get my November transpass last month. I should have switched back to tokens two weeks ago so I wouldn't have to wonder if I'm gonna lose out $80 b/c of this.

Once the strike is over, you can get that 78 back:

Transit Pass Redemption
Unused Passes purchased prior to a service interruption may be fully or partially redeemed. Customers should retain any unused passes until return instructions are published.

I did hear that the union is starting a commercial campaign due to the backlash. I think ppl are usually on their side for more money but in these times when too many ppl have taken paycuts just to save their jobs, there is little sympathy on the greed from the union. There is a news conference scheduled for today also - no time known. My husband will again be picking up all his employees.

I thought the offer to Septa employees was very generous

What the heck do they want?
