Default New Police camera at Cottman and Frankford

Did I miss this anywhere sorry for a repost but I just saw they installed a police camera at Cottman and Frankford with the blue strobe lights like they have down in the hoods of Philly's on the bad corners. I guess we really are considered the bad lands now! It's nice to have I guess but big brother is watching there for sure. I guess since everyone runs there when a Philly team wins something they figured it was a hot spot in the city for one. I guess from seeing them all over the ghetto's of Philly I felt dirty seeing that there. Maybe the blue strobes are a bit much.

I think it was put there mainly for the celebrations that occur there.

Is it illegal if I give the guy monitoring the thing on the other end the middle finger?

Also, how soon until we have these:

Cerb, I noticed (how can anyone NOT notice!) that blue blinking contraption on the way to/from work today.

It certainly stands out.. almost as if to say: hey you!.. SMILE!, you're on Candid Camera!

The dudes renovating the old Kiki's better not horse around on the job, eh?

As for the Jewelers, the one time I went into the joint to price a sexy black Movado, I didn't care for the salesman's attitude.
Or the fact that my classic BoyToy watch that needed re-chroming was deemed "junk". (how dare they!)

I dont think one store makes the intersection....I think the Post office, Pats music, two banks, and the new AT&T store are looking pretty good...Not to mention the new Police and Fire Credit Union being built!

Well, I did take the 23 one time and I must say by the time that bus finally reaches Broad and Erie... you reach the area where there are several of the blue stobe light cameras, and you see all the crazy people moping about everywhere, all jaywalking, some people outside on the sidewalk with their prayer mats praying to Allah, some pointed in the wrong direction (supposed to go East, towards Mecca)...

you feel like you're in a Bedouin market in Morocco.

I hardly think FKD and Cottman has reached that point. I agree with the previous poster who said it's mainly because of crowd control. Most of the time this is a car-only intersection with people hanging around to change from one SEPTA bus to another one.

But when there's a sports fan crowd, that place is crushed with humanity between the edges of all the buildings.

I think the cameras are fine. Turn off the stupid blinking light.

The blinking light is to deter any possible illegal activity. Its a way to remind people they are on camera. I saw it the other day too Jim and my heart sunk a bit more.... Thought the same thing as you did

But but!... it might come in handy for "directions"
For instance, when I throw one of my fabulous candlelight suppers...

I saw it today on my way down the ave....

This isnt Broad and CB Moore.

Why does a little itty bitty camera dome need a giant white box with mini-police strobes ontop? Talk about overkill.

We already know from D-Clarke's people that nobody even watches the CCTVs anyway, and 1/2 the time they're not even recording or transmitting any video.

No doubt its because of sports celebrations. This way if a young 20 something girl goes crying to the cops that she was sexually assaulted by some drunks, the cops might be able to do something about it. Or if a drunk fan throws a rock into a storefront, same deal. Not to mention lots of alcohol, adrenaline and no space can easily spark fights. Ramsey's just being prepared. He'll also have the street poles greased down and cops everywhere should the fightin's repeat.

As I drove past the light last week, all I could think about was the HBO show "The Wire" where they show these cameras all over the place in Baltimore. I'm still in ignorant bliss thinking they'll take it down after the world series ends because I don't want to believe things have gotten so bad.

    Oh well.

I don't mind the camera, but the strobe light HAS GOT to go...if my friends and family see that on their next visit to my house in Mayfair, the chances of them returning are going to be slim to none. And when that happens, I will likely decide to move...but since my property value will have declined by then, i wil be forced to rent my home and contribute to the further decline of a once-good neighborhood.

    This isn't K-mart.
