Default New to the area- what are the highlights and lowlights?

    Hello everyone-
Found this board through a Google search-yay ........ anyway I'm new to the area and living in NorthEast Philadelphia (taking a new job up here) and want to know what are the highlights and lowlights of Northeast Philadelphia. Located around Grant Avenue and the Boulevard.
    Thanks ahead for any ideas

One immediate lowlight - Grant and the Boulevard is perhaps the most dangerous intersection in the country traffic-wise. Making a left turn from any direction is nerve-wracking!

Highlight - Try nearby Nifty Fifties restaurant - especially the shakes.

Check out the Dining Car. They make a good breakfast and have awesome desserts too.

If you are in to fishing Pennypack is all around you, trout is stocked and fishing season begins in late March. If you like Mexican food Las Margaritas at Welsh and Blvd is very good and authentic. As someone stated Grant and Blvd is a very dangerous intersection, I avoid it by taking bluegrass road (street next to wawa) to welsh, and most of the time i avoid welsh too by taking a left at the burger king and taking woodward to make a left onto the blvd.

Most dangerous intersection in the country or county?

Welcome to the neighborhood. Do be careful on the Boulevard...most of the major intersections have reputations. They were the first red light camera intersections in the City...nuff said?

Miller's Ale House is good sports bar, food is generally good for the price
General Grants is good for hot roast beef
    Macaroni's is upscale Italian
East on Grant to almost the river, 3 Monkey's is fun, esp in warm weather. Unusual for the area outdoor bar
Firehouse Subs is a different take on a sandwich shop
