I recall having much more fun at the Y as a kid: you had enough room in the pool for actual games & swimming, there were more of your friends around, and the water didn't constantly get filthy.
Do parents just hate having to walk or drive their kids somewhere that much?
Seriously. How much fun can you have in a pool this size? We had way more fun at the local pool, or even having water fights with hoses. It sucks that people can't even have pools like this without some ass vandalizing them, but I'm also glad that no one on my street has them.

That's the problem... a lot of the time these pools are left up all year. Also, folks don't properly clean, treat, or filter them and they become a breeding ground for mosquito and bacteria. These pools are illegal, they are supposed to be fenced. Any small child could climb right in and drown, in fact I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet.
This is blight, and frankly I'm glad that someone is taking care of the problem.
Try selling your house when one of your neighbors has a blue beast out front.
The area needs Toledo, now more than ever. These cesspools of filth must come down and these ghetto pigs must learn the error of their ways.
Probably. I was lucky enough at the time to have Simpson pool practically around the block from my house.
All the neighborhood kids would go. Was a great place durring the summer until about the mid 80s when kids from outside
the neighborhood would come and trash up the pool. They had it closed for two weeks durring one summer because some scum bag **** in it.

They brought up the illegal nature of the pools. If you are committing a crime, you should not be allowed to punish the social reformer that wishes to correct such violations. The pool cutter is a hero, and the only ones who should be held accountable are the slum owners who caused this filth through neglect and self entitlement.
Mayfair Pool Slasher Caught On Tape - Philadelphia News, Weather and Sports from WTXF FOX 29
Looks like Mayfair's goin downhill pretty fast...
I hear that the POOL SLASHER NEWS is now a nationwide news event.
It might become international, NBC was thinking of showing segments of those lovely Mayfair MILFs sitting by their Plastic Pools followed by AMCE Suppermarket paying for some commercial time.
WOW this is BIG!
Ahh, Simpson!! My old stomping grounds! That pool was great- for a long time. Remember the watermelon races and the swim shows? And in the winter, go right across the street and go sledding! Or, if you were brave enough, sled down the tracks. Great memories. I don't remember any of my friends having a pool in their yard (front or back). We didn't need one.
Today, I wouldn't let my kids swim in most city pools. So, if my kids were younger, I would buy them a pool. I would take care of it, unlike some neighbors.
As far as trying to sell your house with a neighbor who has a pool out front? If it's well kept, I don't think that detracts from the block. If you're buying in Mayfair, chances are you have-or will have- kids.

I personally don't like these behemoth blue monstrosities on front lawns throughout the NE for the same reason I don't like chain link fences on the fronts of row homes. They both look terrible! If and when pools are taken down after the summer is over, there's always a huge brown circle of dead grass on the lawn that lasts until the spring.
So if many of these pools are illegal, why aren't L&I inspectors out cruising the neighborhoods in their air-conditioned city cars and citing these people? They are out and about on other violation calls and inspections, no? I guess they don't see them.![]()
