Default Bobby Heenon's Bad Neighbor Map

Yahoo! Local Beta News - Philadelphia Councilman Introduces Neighborhood Map Targeting Nuisance Properties

    OMG!!!

Does ANYONE pay taxes in the middle of his district? Are there any properties without L&I citations? What a visual!

Would be even better if you could drill down, but this map should be available for every section. It is clear that the problems are MASSIVE and the dollars owed are HUGE. This is a multicolored display of what is wrong with this city.

Collect what we are owed and don't let debtors expand their territories.

Ok this is pretty hysterical. It says, "forbiden" Hmmmmmm.

A sure way of making people want to find out information is baring them from finding it, or telling them they can't.

A map like this would be great for all neighborhoods.

Sorry to all for whetting your appetites! It was absolutely there when I posted...four possible pins for back taxes, L&I, landlords, and landlords with back taxes AND L&I. It was MASSIVE. I thought it would be a dot here and there...but it was just a blanket.

My guess is that the volume of attention swamped his account -- which wasn't a city account but looks like a campaign account.

Henon's communications staffer mentioned that since Yahoo News put up a link, the site has been inundated.

It should be back up now.

I just got this.. click on all the boxes and HOLY CRAP!!!!!! NO wonder this city has a deficit!

Wonder if Kenyatta would do one for the 2nd district. If not how can we make one! It's pretty awesome.

What would be neat is if the City just did it for the whole City.

This actually isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Put another way, when subdivided into at the neighborhood level, it's a much more manageable level.

For example, Port Richmond has 2. Bridesburg has 3.

Working with the local civics, Henon's office could do a lot to budge this number down. They should use this as a sort of baseline/performance metric over time to judge the QOL in that district.

Granted, I suspect that if word got out, the number of violations would go up initially, as nearby neighbors might report offenders more often (at least, initially) when they realize something might actually be done about it.

did you click all 4 options? even when you can zoom in on the streets it's pretty impressive.

Here's most of the City's 102,000 property tax deadbeats (about 97,000 of them):

Note, I would discard the people who are late 1 year and some properties that are 3 years behind as many of those are Recession victims. But if you look at 5+ years late, it's still mind boggling.

Tax Delinquent Properties | PlanPhilly: Planning Philadelphia's Future

The neighborhood that wins the award for most concentration of deadbeats is Brewerytown/Sharswood.

    that is incredible!

    Point Breeze

    Number of Delinquent Properties: 4,062

    but the winner is

    North Philadelphia/West

    Number of Delinquent Properties: 12,155

some of the areas there are so many circles it looks topographic.

This map is misleading, IMO. Show me a map of only known absentee-owned properties with the following options:

    1. Unlicensed - Property license and BP license
    2. Unpaid R/E taxes
    3. Unpaid BP taxes
    4. Delinquent water bills
    5. Open L&I Violations
    6. Unpaid L&I-Code Enforcement fines and costs

In this economy, it is unfair to include owner occupied properties where two or three years of RE taxes are unpaid.

hmm.. wonder how accurate this is supposed to be, because when i zoomed in all the way i could see 2 pins for my property. 1 rental citation, and 2 l&i citations.

(im basing "my property" on where normal google maps puts my address when i search for it.. which might be wrong also.)

i've been at my place ~3 years, have lived there the entire time(therefore, no rental citation), and the only citation i did get was a SWEEP warning for leaves(a few days after i filled 2 30gal bags of them) (and i don't even think thats what they mean by l&i citation?)

if the pin belongs to either of my neighbors it might make sense.. one of the houses was foreclosed on and who knows how the bank is managing it, and i think on the other side they were renting out their basement as an apartment.

The problem is, "this economy" seems to have been going on for quite some time...wonder how many just deprioritized paying taxes since they know nothing much will happen.

I just calculated the taxes owed for Bustleton, a fairly law abiding place based on the tax delinquent link. Only 421 are delinquent (3.4%) but the over $1.9 mill they owe is $150 for every up to date tax payer in the neighborhood. I'd like to have my $150 dollars back. In this economy, I could use it.

the pins may not be 100% on the correct address. I know of someone who is behind on taxes and the pin is like 2-3 doors away from their actual location

Could be on purpose to avoid "confidentiality issues..."
