Exclamation Tis the Season to Protect Your Neighborhood!!

WOW I thought I had been hearing a lot of sirens lately!

    Now I know why!

If you notice, most of these are just within the last few weeks!

Be observant, and if you see something out of the ordinary, PLEASE REPORT IT no matter how trivial! It's how we can keep track of what is going on in OUR neighborhood and hopefully get the resources needed to better protect us.

Reading through that long list makes me wonder if all those crimes happened in a bubble. No One saw anything???

Have we really become a society where no one cares?? Is everyone afraid?? How can a person stand by and watch someone else get robbed, assulted, shot at, even killed and just walk away and pretend nothing happened?

When we, as a neighborhood or a community stand together and tell these criminals they will Not be permitted to continue their criminal behavior because we Will hold them responsible maybe we have a chance at stopping all this crime.

There does seem to be a fear that if someone identifies and testifies against a criminal they may suffer retailation. There is no denying that can and does happen. But if one person sees a crime and does the right thing, AND all his/her neighbors stand together and say in a clear strong voice "we will watch out for and protect our neighbor" it stands to reason most criminals will be afraid. If we all come together to watch and protect our neighbors we are telling the criminal element we Will be there to testify against them and push the judicial system to put them in jail. Again and Again.

This is the only way to stop the crime that seems to be overwelming out community.

Written in response to another thread...

So often I hear complaints about the "Police" not doing their jobs, But how can they possibly do anything when the citizens they are trying to protect will not do anything to help.

If we as a community are not willing to do whatever we can to assist the police department to keep our neighborhoods safe we are as much to blame as the criminals. We can't hide in our homes and complain about crime. We must band together and say No More.

Calling the police is just the start. But that should Not be where every citizen's responsibility ends. There is the investigation where telling an officer or detective what you saw happen. Then hopefully the arrest, and trial. Testifying at the trial is just as important as the initial 911 call. It sometimes sucks and can cost time and money to go downtown a couple times. But if no one is there to Testify against the criminal, they will get away with the crime. And finally after the trial and conviction, there is an opportunity to speak to not only the court and the criminal, but to your neighborhood and community. This is the victim impact statement. This is where you tell the court how this crime impacted your life and neighborhood. This is where you say I am Not afraid.

There is a saying that Evil exists where good men do nothing. The reason there has been such an increase in crime is because good men (and women) did nothing. There are so many ways to get involved and stop this blight that is taking over our neighborhood. GET INVOLVED!

What a shame that is happening in NE Philly. It's rather astounding though, to now see from a distance, how much stress accompanied living in an area visited upon by ever so many growing circles of crime. Its just wrong to have to experience that....

Lemmie balance this out with some good karma.

Someone knocked on my front door at like 8am on Saturday. I had dropped my wallet in front of my house as I was getting out of my car. Some random person found it, saw the address on the drivers license, and returned it. Talk about fortunate! Plus, it was really nice to see there are decent people out there.

    I agree!

I think we'd have a MUCH better conviction rate if we had a courtroom in the NE. I think it sucks that you have to go to the city in order to attend a trial which could take all day. I think things would move a lot smoother for residents of the NE if we had a courtroom up here. That way, shorty after the trial, they could go back to work and lose only 1/2 a day rather than the entire day, not to mention the cost of parking / transportation.

    Here's a cautionary tale...
My friend lives in a cushy suburb--and did a lot of Christmas shopping online. The day of delivery-- UPS drops off the packages, and a thief was right behind him to steal everything he left on her step. Evidently, there is a ring of thieves following UPS & FEDX trucks around.
So, if you're ordering online, either make sure you require a signature if you're not going to be home.. or have things delivered to a location where someone will be home.

That's been going on for years, and I've seen Fed Ex, UPS and the USPS leave packages without getting sig's when they're supposed too. There's also the scumbags that will follow people home from the malls etc when they see people put large quantities of packages into their trunk only to return in the wee hours to pry the trunk open hoping the purchases are still there. It's no different then down the shore where I constatntly see people riding up and down the street following other cars waiting for the people to park and head to the beach/boardwalk. After about 10 minutes they're trying to gain access to the vehicle looking for whatever valuables were left behind. People need to use common sense because for every honest person out there trying to do the right thing there's a scumbag looking to take something from them. Sad, but true!

Maybe they should be more competent and aware of who they release at the same time, or maybe even this incident occured behind the walls of one of NE Phillys finer hotels.

I'm sure it did occur behind the walls. Other incidents on this list clearly read playground fight, others blatantly happened at our fine public schools and still others were likely domestic. Besides, we want people reporting crimes in the 15th to get higher patrols, do we not? Lock your door, keep valuables out of the car, don't hang with druggies and you'll be fine. Check out the crime report in Graduate Hospital, where many Mayfair folk can't afford to live. Don't mean to come off as bashing the OP but I'm not sure what purpose this thread serves.

All Of Family's Christmas Gifts Stolen

Did anyone catch this story last night about the Mayfair family whose garage was broken into and all their Christmas presents stolen?

That's why you've got to look around when you're doing anything in this city. Somebody is always watching! Some scumbag probably saw her putting the packages in the garage and came back later. Just last week, a co-worker who lives in Juniata came home from her JOB, (a term unfamiliar to lowlifes everywhere) and found her place had been burglarized. They took her TV, laptop, and anything else that wasn't nailed down. Nice to see from the comments some people want to help out the victims of this crime.

A lot of people will be getting nice things for Xmas and the other holidays. Cut up the cardboard boxes they came in and turn the printed side inward. Thieves go around on garbage day after Xmas looking at the discarded boxes at the curb. They might just see a box and say, "Ooo! Look! They just got a 61" LCD TV! We're comin' back here!"

Lemmy, I've been saying this same thing for decades. - It's pure common sense actually, but sadly not practiced in this crime-ridden society.
And yet it happens every year - for that matter, all year long.

    Heartbreaking.
Sad story, I'm sure there will be people that come to the rescue and save Christmas for these kids. The only thing that bothers me is why someone would go out and spend $1,200 a couple days after being laid off. These stories are an annual occurence and unfortunately sometimes have been scams to get pity and gifts from unsuspecting caring people.

If you do a zip code search on Megans Law list you'll see tons of predators in the 19136 search response. When you look into it further you end up noticing a good percentage of them are guests at the Holmesburg Hilton.

Indeed, I know of two idiot/losers listed on Megan's site - for messing with young boys.
These scumbags need help, yet both live free - one even has a home in Andalusia now!

These kinds of human lice I don't bother with.

What's scary is when I did a search of my area - 19149, I got some cooties living around here too!

My Wife's mother lives in Mayfair, right off Cottman, she had her garage broken into a week before Thanksgiving, they stole all of her foodfrom the fridge in the Garage,THEN made it into the house and took all the food from the fridge and a few cabinets up there! No valuables, just food! I assume someone couldn't afford Thanksgiving dinner, so they went "shopping" at my in-laws!

My garage door's wired with the alarm system - I got good tools in there.

I think things would move a lot smoother for residents of the NE if we had a courtroom up here. That way, shorty after the trial, they could go back to work and lose only 1/2 a day rather than the entire day, not to mention the cost of parking / transportation.

    GREAT story!
    Thanks for sharin it!
Yes I agree...but consider this-do you really want to see the THUGS that live the neighborhood (or not) in court in the Northeast????
Victims/Witnesses would most definitely be more apprehensive in showing up in court. Center city may not be as convenient...but it certainly is a more neutral environment for all involved.
So......today is your lucky day, since I am the victim/witness coordinator for the entire Northeast!!! If you are a victim/witness and were subpoenaed to court, all you have to do is drop me a line at 215-686-8929 and I will find a way to accommodate you!!!! Of course, I can't buy you lunch at McCormick and Schmicks....but I can find you CHEAP parking..or even in certain instances transportation to and from court!!! Feel free to contact me with any issues or problems!
