Senator Tartaglione's office usually has them. Her office is at Bridge & Large Streets. Call first to make sure they have some. The number there is 215-533-0440.

You can also use any sturdy container 20 gallons or less marked with the word "RECYCLING". 4 free recycling buckets is a lot for one household. Please consider procuring your own containers so that there are enough to go around.

We HAVE our own recycling containers ( trashcans) but apparently if it isnt bright blue the recycling truck sometimes overlooks it, then we are stuck with two weeks worth of recyling and I cant lift the big cans into my truck. I wish we had recycling centers like other townships. Right now going over to State road isnt exactly convenient.

Try Councilman O'Neill's Northeast office at Bustleton and Bowler. 215 685-0432. Same building as the fire station and the 7th police district. Any place you hear has the bins, call first. They usually go fast. They were giving them at Pelbano rec in March. They had a few hundred, which went in 20 minutes.

I have 4 recycling containers. They are not exactly FREE since we pay taxes. I'm sure they include it somewhere. I had 2 white tubs that I bought and the trashmen threw them both away.

Why can't the City issue stickers that say RECYCLE on them so that you can use ANY container you want. Slap that sticker on a can or Rubber Maid container & it is easily identified as RECYCLES. Seems to me that Nutter would save a buck over 4 blue buckets.

They do, and they're encouraging people to use them since the city is out of recycling bins right now. Not sure where you can get the stickers, our neighborhood association has them at 1901 Christian Street.

They are supposed to have 10,000 more sometimes in July.

Do you all know about Recycle Bank, the recycling rewards program that they recently started doing here? When you sign up, they send you a sticker to put on your recycling container, and then you earn points based on how much the neighborhood puts out for recycling, which you can then redeem for coupons and magazines and stuff.

Anyway, the point is, they give you stickers for your bins.

    Welcome to PhillyRecyclingPAYS.com

I've never had a problem with having my unofficial recycling bins trashed. I have plenty of blue bins now, but when I was short a few, I used matching white household trash cans and wrote "RECYCLING" on the side in gigantic letters, and set them several feet apart from my trash can so that it's really clear at a glance what is trash and what is recycling. Don't know how well that would work for everyone else, since many streets are tighter and more densely packed than mine. But, it always worked for me.

    Have you been accumulating points?
Have you ever tried to redeem them?

I signed up back in February, got the bonus points, and just started earning points on the recycling I put out three or four weeks ago. My sister lives in Ft Lauderdale and they have the program there, too. In FL they weigh each individual house's recycling buckets and calculate points based on how much each household puts out, but we don't have the special trash trucks here, so here it's based on how much the entire area sets out. I guess they weigh the truck at the end of the route, then divide by the number of houses on the route? Anyway, I've been getting 37 points a week for the past several weeks.

Last week I redeemed some of my points for a magazine subscription. It was pretty easy. Recycle Bank gave me a code, which I used on the magazine's subscription site. Haven't gotten any magazines yet, but it's only been a week.

    It's a pretty cool idea, I think!

Anyone know if the bins are available yet? My mom was asking about them, and I thought it would be nice to go pick up a bin for her, if they're back in stock at the pick up centers.

I got my sticker the other day. How / where do you see if you're getting points? Do they just email them to ya?
