This story of missing 22-year-old Franchesca Alvarado has just been haunting me.
It seems that the media has just given up on the case, or isn't interested for some reason. Which I don't understand because there's such a strong advocacy base -- the family and community have been holding rallies in Juniata (where they're from) and Hunting Park (where Franchesca lived) and even going to A.C. regularly to search for her.
Not getting into the whole what-if-she-was-a-blonde-from-Center-City thing, but I just don't understand why there isn't more outrage and more coverage. Especially since rumors of her being an escort have been debunked and it doesn't seem like she's a runaway or hiding out somewhere.
Seems like she really went down to A.C. to play the slots (a trip that alone seems to have stigmatized her -- but come on, who hasn't spent a weekend in A.C.?) and most likely put her trust in the wrong person. Bad decision(s) ≠ bad person.
A lot of the news sites covered her initial disappearance, but didn't go much or any further than that. At least the Metro got something pretty substantial in their weekend paper.
I really hope this one has a happy ending, but the more days that pass, the less confident I am that will happen. I hope, at the least, more people will spread the word, putting a little pressure on investigators. Maybe if there's enough of an outcry, someone will listen.
