Default Temple buying Medical Center on Girard??

I recently heard from a relative that Temple was in the process of buying Girard Medical Center at 8th & Girard (The relative works for Penn). This would make a satellite campus just a few blocks from University Village, would definitely drive more development in the area in-between and would be really beneficial to Main campus! Anyone have any info on this? How far along are they? Is it even true?

Hmm. And didn't Blatstein sort of jump over there and say he is going to do a project in that area now?

Mixi, Girard between 5th and 8th is pretty barren. It would be nice to see something come in to help that corridor come to a little more life.

It wouldn't take much after the HP Gas Station and Library is plenty of open space that is waiting for someone to come in a use it.

Girard Medical Center is part of North Philadelphia Health System, which also owns St. Joseph Hospital, down the road. Girard has the psych ward (including methadone cliinic) and long-term acute care. St. Joe's has the ER and the acute care facilities. They work in tandem, and in fact share an intercom and phone system. If Girard is being sold, I would bet St Joe's would be included, and NPHS would probably disappear. I don't think they own any other facilities. I'd be surprised if it were sold, because it is pretty much totally state funded because virtually nobody going there has insurance. I doubt temple, penn, or hahnemann want any more indigent patients.
