This proves the perps do not respect our officers.Prison is not an effective deterrent.Any perp pointing a lethal/or look-a-like weapon at an officer should be shot & killed. They dont belong in a civil society.Germantown Ave shoppers should not be subjected to street violence. It is depressing, there are many law-abiding folks, subjected to gun-toting unemployables. This perp will never be a taxpayer,he probably has a few kids on welfare & takes his frustration on a peace officer

One of my customers refers to this situation as:
"a cancer that ultimately needs to be irradicated from society in order for society to sustain a healthy existence."

Someone, a body of authority representing the People, should be assembled and appointed to thoroughly weed thru criminal history records and single out those career criminals.
Then a trackdown is initiated, placing these _____ into a facility as "risks to society".

What's so damn hard about that?
The taxpayers I'm sure would approve!

Police officer wounded, gunman killed in shootout | Philadelphia Inquirer | 02/26/2009

    Love this part:

The wounded officer, a detective in major crimes who was not immediately identified, was reported in stable condition at Temple University Hospital with a leg wound. He reportedly walked into the hospital on his own.
    That's badass.

he knew they were cops. he didn't open the door and shoot. He opened the door and slammed it shut when they identified themselves as police. They then broke the door open and ran in after him at which point he turned and shot them. He knew exactly who he was shooting.

I'm glad this officer is recovering.

This story was not on the homepage of philly.com this morning. But was on the Inquirer homepage.
"No one wanted to be mayor of Philadelphia. It was a thankless job, which for the first 56 years offered an annual salary of zero. In 1745, two men turned down the position and instead accepted large fines. In 1747, Anthony Morris fled to Bucks County to hide and thus avoid notification of his election. After Morris’s disappearance, a new election was held, and William Atwood was re-elected."

That depends on a number of things.

A hollow point does not always make a need little whole. Upon impact the bullet can expand and makes a huge gaping hole. The slower the velocity of the bullet, the less likely it is to punch a "neat little hole" through a subject.

A hollow point fired from a .45, which is pretty large diameter bullet to begin with, is slow moving and it usually produces good expansion. The hole produced is generally not neat, and not very little.

You're right that a lot of it is random though. One dude might get plugged in the chest a couple of times and manage to survive; the next dude might catch one in the leg and bleed to death before help can arrive.

Det. Bittenbinder said that if someone pulls a gun on you and you can run away, run. Each step you take lessens the chances of being hit and statistically most gun shots aren't fatal.

If you're unarmed, good advice. If you think you can draw and fire a good shot, perhaps that's the best method. Every case is different and you've got to make that fight-or-flight decision based on the specifics of your situation. Also, some tacticians claim that zig-zagging helps when running.
If you believe people should work till they die to pay for a government worker to retire at 50, you're a Democrat. Otherwise, you're a Republican. All other differences between the parties are trivial.
