And no, it's not too big to fail. Revel is toast in its present incarnation. Labor Day weekend fireworks shows aren't going to turn the tide. After the imminent chapter 11, who knows?

Here's a question... How the heck did this place cost $2 Billion dollars to begin with?? Wikipedia says the Comcast Building cost only $550 million, and that was built using (gasp!) more expensive union labor whereas it seems Revel was entirely non-union?! I know this place had some setbacks but geeez the fact you could build the Comcast Center 4 times over is just baffling. I suppose it had to have the rooms furnished and much more detailed as opposed to an office building, but still seems tremendously high.
Overall just seems like too many things wrong with it that gamblers dislike, non-smoking, expensive, lack of bonus card treatment, no buffet, no telephones in the rooms, aimed for young Gen Yers who don't gamble much, lack of casino executives involved in the startup, clubs not fully open/lack of current attraction. Also I think they relied solely on the DO/AC advertising campaign, and didn't advertise nearly enough on their own this summer. Just buying one TV spot during each Phillies game alone would've probably done wonders.
I agree though, seems this place is toast. Probably be a big shakeup of events by NYE or definitely next Memorial Day. Wonder how closely it's failure will be tied to Christie's political decisionmaking skills.

REVEL YES ..
I've heard that too. What an amazing lack of thought. I realize not everyone likes smoking or being around it, but nicotine addiction and gambling go hand-in-hand. I'd think that a slot player in a non-smoking section could easily say, "Welp, $5 down...I'm out of here" whereas someone who's a smoker (and therefore likely exhibits an addicitive personality) would sit there until they won their mortgage back.
I agree about it being a boring looking building too. Was down there last weekend and couldn't deciper which building it was on the skyline. And that golf ball...seemed like a neat idea in concept (always under a full moon), but it looked like crap with a bunch of bulbs already out.
Wow, Gio7707 is plugging Revel with as much religious fervor as his "the police are teh evil" meme.

@Jayfar ..never made a statement like that and it's also offtopic ...as a matter of fact I have high respect for them (except for the bad apples..)...but let's stay on topic ..

Fine, back on topic, Revel still sucks. The Best of Philly designation from Philadelphia Magazine clinches it.

"Cosmopolitan. Intriguing. Elegant. And those are just the ads. Exactly what Atlantic City needed, when it needed it most."
Yep, Philadelphia Magazine sucking up to Revel for some of that ad revenue.

YESS..HURRY UP ..THE BIG BANG WEEKEND ...
Big Bang Weekend - Atlantic City Labor Day Weekend | REVEL
Gio is on the Revel payroll.
I took my mother to the Revel on Thursday. We got there at about 10 am and parked on the casino level, three spots from the elevator. Not a good sign. It was nearly empty inside. My mother and I got Revel cards without waiting. She's already earned a free room. I didn't even try since I can't stand gambling but I did get free parking. After spending a few dollars, I went out and walked the boards. When I came back to get my mother, the place was a bit more crowded. There was a line to get a Revel card so I guess those people were all first-timers. I though it was very nice looking for a casino- better than any others I've been to here and in Las Vegas. So why isn't it doing better business?
Pennsylvania’s casinos helped jump-start what had been lagging numbers, PwC said.
“In general, because of their closer proximity to population centers, we expect regional casinos to gain share from Atlantic City and tribal casinos,” the company said in 2011.
Yet they may have woken up a sleeping dog in Atlantic City. With this spring’s opening of the $2.4 billion Revel casino, not to mention Atlantic City’s $30 million-a-year marketing budget, the Jersey Shore casinos are unlikely to be quiet for long.
“They may be down, but don’t count them out,” Talamo said.
