You realize of course that overselling Obama as closely influenced by the Civil Rights era leadership is generally probably more of an electoral plus, right? Obama as successor to MLK is a trope (though largely oversold) is one that helps, not hurts him get reelected.

I would guess it's the "all white people are going to hell" part.

You know what I honestly skimmed right past that part because its not an actual quote, its paraphrased by the reporter, possibly incorrectly. I'd be very, very curious to hear the actual quote since the paraphrase does not square at all with the lament that is quoted in the next paragraph.

"I'm frightened by the level of hatred and bitterness coming out in this election," said Lowery.
Basically it sounds very much like the key statement is unfortunately the one being paraphrased, that the actual quote directly following the alleged statement directly contradicts its alleged meaning and that context is everything.

That said there has been some awful racist crap surrounding this election that I'm sure if there is a hell would qualify a few folks for a spot at the front of the line.

It seems like an awful editorial decision at best to paraphrase rather than actually quote the actual line that is the controversial one. If you were going to quote anything the actual sentences leading into and out of that alleged comment would be it.

Dude could well be that senile but the way the article is written is suspect at best.

"I don't know what kind of a n----- wouldn't vote with a black man running," said Lowery.
Voting for someone based on the color of their skin? Not surprising. It's always been evident Democrats are the true racists. RIP "content of their character" thingy.

And is St. James Baptist Church a tax exempt organization? If so, the IRS needs to revoke that status immediately.

Apparently he did say it and is dismissing it as a "joke".

“It was a joke” told via the perspective of a young militant, Lowery told TheDC.
DC is the Daily Caller. link

I'm not going to search around for video because frankly I believe the racist ahole meant what he said and paraphrased or not that's what he said.

I've lost track of the cast of rogue characters 0bama surrounds himself with. Militants, racists, domestic terrorists. Nice dinner crowd. I can see why redistribution of the wealth is so high on his list.

"I don't know what kind of a n----- wouldn't vote with a black man running," said Lowery. "All that he did with the stimulus was genius. Nobody intelligent would risk this country with Romney."
Again with the selective quotes. Clearly he thinks the "n-------" sitting out the election is voting against not just his own, but most of America's economic interest. I may disagree with his choice of words and you may disagree with his economic analysis but its an opinion about economic self-interest in the full quote.

You are so full of it and you know it. The guy was a one guy mouthing off ignorantly while a visiting speaker at a non-religious conference being held inside the church building. He was not a member of the church or speaking during a religious service. No person with half a brain would construe that as a violation of the church's non-profit status. Certainly not one who say defends an only vaguely religiously affiliated hospital's to force their views on what health insurance should cover for each and every of their non-religious employees, the ones actually changing bed pans and pushing brooms.

Selective quotes or not the guy is a racist ahole. Much like most of the Dems I know. Unions, reverands, politicians. They don't give a crap about the black man. Only his vote. If you're black and haven't escaped poverty for the last 20 years maybe you should think about whether or not the Dems have your interests in mind. What a joke.

And the church thing...It goes to the larger issue of campaigning from the pulpit that runs rampant and unchecked in certain congregations. Don't deny it. Politicians constantly speak from the pulpit during services telling people exactly who to vote for. There's even voter registration tables set up in the back of the churches no less.

Don't be naive and say it doesn't happen just because your side is doing it and I think they are violating their tax exempt status. They are.

And you failed to comment on whitey in hell. I take it you are now convinced that he did say what was written.

Oh I'm sure he probably said something stupid and regretable in some way, perhaps an off color joke, its just highly suspicious when an article's headline quote is a paraphrase and the very next actual quote directly contradicts the supposed message of the supposed paraphrase.

I may be going to hell for something else but I very seriously doubt he meant me. Quite possibly you based on some of your past posts, but not me.

BTW the CLC is and has always been an activist group. He was speaking as one speaker amongst many at a conference, not a religious meeting, according to the article. Several congregants at the church are quoted taking issue with the comments, which again are not directly quoted, rather suspiciously.

At least no one in Romney's church is racist. Since 1978.

Fortunately there's no unrepentant demostic terrorists or Communist sympathizers there either. Wish I could say the same about the Barry crowd.

Romney's father did support the Civil Rights Act along with many other Republicans, which is the only reason it passed.

The Democrats gave a valiant effort trying to block it though.

All Democrats who became Republicans immediately thereafter, which is why the South has been blood red ever since. You know this of course. It will be difficult, but you can stop playing dumb.

The Republicans who supported civil rights and any other sane policies have long since left the party, enabling it to fulfill its great metamorphosis into the party of resentful hillbillies desperately longing for the return of white Christian male manifest destiny. Dream on your plaintive alarmist dreams, my forever-to-be disappointed and resentful comrade.

The only reason the Civil Rights Act passed was due to President Lyndon Johnson, a just former leader of the US Senate, along with Dem Sen Harry Byrd of Virginia who at the time was the Senate leader. You should do a bit of history reading mate.

You're probably a Democrat which means you notice race by default. I do not.

I only notice his failed domestic, economic and foreign policies that every liberal I know tries again and again and again to make work. They never do. The only reason those policies haven't died their natural death is because they promise free sh1t to people and Democrats love free sh1t. Especially that OPM. Can't get enough of it.

What did Lyndon Johnson (as president) do to get the bill passed in the Senate that the Democrats were filibustering the crap out of? Are you serious? Johnson? All he had to do was sit back and wait to sign it. That's it. The Democrats were doing everything they could to keep it from being voted on in the Senate. Sheesh.

And do you mean Harry Byrd, Sr? The guy was an incredible racist that wanted nothing to do with integration, let alone civil rights.
