Default Romney at a Private Fundraiser: Obama Voters Are 'Dependent upon Government'

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.

Same category as Obama's "clings to guns or religion" private fundraiser comment. Politicians demonizing a large swath of the citizenry while trying to feed red meat to their hard core supporters.

I got this off the comments, so I don't know how true it is and Its obviously lumping everyone together, but
I still find it interesting in light of Romney's comments.

Right or wrong many white blue collar voters believe it and see the wrold that way so it can resonate w/ the white working class.

I'll wait to see how mittens responds if this goes viral but it could do wonders for him in places like Ohio

Yeah, I mean I have a high paying job, never received a food stamp or a welfare check and I am still paying for college. I however was provided with a public education and did for a short time receive an unemployment check. I have never expected anything to be handed to me, but I was fortunate to be born into a well to do family and grew up in a very comfortable climate and I have never had to face the struggles of many others. So I just think, well you know, I shouldn't be a selfish pr*ck and realize that perhaps I should pay a higher income tax than others so that those less fortunate than me might have a shot. I also realize that many people less fortunate than me do in fact work hard every day of their lives, and have had to overcome great odds just to get to a point where they are barely getting by, and maybe once in awhile people need some help.

The opinions stated by Romney in that video are so freaking repugnant to me that I just actually gave Obama money.

Actually the opinions expressed by you little nicky and some other stalwarts on this board have gone from me thinking of sitting this one out to being all in.

Also, I freaking blocked your little mind, how the hell did I see your post.

That video should be watched. He also said.

"My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

So, he is just going to only care about those who vote for him? He is only going to represent the interests of those who elected him.

I am just so freaking personally insulted by this. Also, who is the 1% who rated him out?

But you aren't the GOP base.

Again right or wrong many blue collar whites see America this way. The message hits home for them as they feel they work hard, pay federal income tax taxes and many others dont pay their "fair share". Its a good move by Mitt and I wouldnt be surprised if his campaign did their first aggressive thing and released it. Its what any good Rep candidate should be preaching from the moment they accepted the nomination if they want to win.

From that article, and something that I am sure we will be hearing a lot from the Dems.

Romney is the most opaque presidential nominee since Nixon, and people have been reduced to guessing what his true feelings are. This video provides an answer: He feels that you're a loser. It's not an answer that wins elections.
I am also so sick of this they don't pay taxes line considering Romney polls so well among the largest group in America that pays very little federal taxes, the retired. Also, they amusingly take social security payments and use medicare.

I hate how divisive and polarizing politicians can be. Does Romney think we're stupid? Nothing is ever this simple. And it bothers me that Romney isn't even trying to understand what it's like to do everything "right" and still struggle to make ends meet.

MSNBC said it so it must be true.... next week we will get the unedited version. Mitt is not running against Obama, he's running against a liberal biased media.

I don't know about that. It sounds like you're saying they don't believe what they said; just that in both instances, the candidates were telling the base what they wanted to hear. I don't think that's the case.

If you are struggling now, what will it be like in 4 years if he's reelected ?

No. I think both believe what they said in those instances. I am not absolving them. I think it is pathetic and the increasing problem with politics. "Us vs Them".

Romney said it. There's video of him saying it. And you call liberals brainwashed.

I think it's also important to keep in mind that when you're trying to get an extremely well-heeled audience to write checks for a political campaign, snobbery is pretty much a sine qua non. Sure, Obama had to tailor it to a left–leaning audience (working–class people = gun-toting trash too stupid to vote their own economic interests) and Romney to a right–leaning audience (the less-well-off = subsidy-sucking freeloaders), but however sincerely felt, it's a similar strategy they're both using.

There are several reasons why Romney's remarks are more damning, but the main one is that Obama's didn't get leaked to the public six weeks before the general election, while already behind in the polls.

Romney said some stuff that sounded conservative. Liberals heads exploded. A dog also bit a man today.
"Ask not what your country can do for you". Yeah right.
