Not going to get into the rule changes the RNC pulled basically centralizing the authority of the delegates and weakening it at the state level

Prancing around bunch of leftists talking about bi partisanship garbage. The kicker was the guy arthur davis who flipped from a Dem to Repubic. Never heard anyone so full of bull shat in my life at least until Crist speaks in Charlotte next week. Dude has an 18% Club for Growth score so he should fit in fine with the GOP

Lulz @ Christie Creams speech. What a f'en fraud he is.

So far it is very uninspiring and as much as I hate the Bamster's policies he excited the Dems (04) and the younger voters, created huge buzz .. these cats lulz

I have hopes for tomorrow night @ 8:30

I too thought it was pretty lackluster. A bunch of ham & eggers up there talking. The guy from Texas (Ted Cruz? Walking around speaking like a minister) was a joke. Basically his silly style alone alienates alot of moderates. Walking around with a handsfree mic like a preacher?? Really?! Oddly I thought Santorum did a good job, prob the better of the speeches in the night, I just can't agree with his extreme social views. IMHO I wasn't big on Ann's speech. I thought it was pretty silly & emphasized her as one who spoke about "other people" as if they're a bunch of peons, even though she tried to relate & spin it like they were struggling before too. Not buying it. Although, the post speech people seemed to feel she did well. I thought Christie was a bit amped up, he did a good job ( I liked seeing early on the crowd shots of people sitting down who didn't get his NY in your face style. They must've been the same folks cheering on the preacher from Texas). His speech could have easily been substituted to one in which he is running. Only then in the last 2 minutes did he amend it by saying "ladies & Gentlemen the man to lead this country is Mitt Romney". The speech was pretty good, I just wonder if he might have upstaged him a bit & people are all Rahh Rahhh Rahhh now & then goofy Mitt Romneys gonna take the stage & it reverts back to a big snoozefest.

    Anyhow ..
This convention; is it to nominate Mittens or promote a 2016 presidential campaign?
I am convinced not a single one of these speakers thinks romney will win.

Then again i am still baffled why they want to win. Let the obama and the dems own what is coming in 2013-2014.

Catered to the 'Yee-haww we're Texan & root for anything Texan" audience. That & started off with numerous lifted speaking points, Reagan, JFK, MLK & even Yes We Can??! Also I swear he said something about 'Our forefathers wrote, what is now, the most miraculous document ever conceived' or something in referring to the Constitution... Uhmmm, ok even moreso than the Bible?!

Just a bunch of rallying points, couldn't stand the guy.

Coal miners say they were forced to attend Romney event and donate | The Raw Story

A group of coal miners in Ohio feel they would have been fired if they did not attend an Aug. 14 event with presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and contribute to his campaign — and to make matters worse, they lost of day of pay for their trouble.

In phone calls and emails to WWVA radio host David Blomquist, employees at the Century Mine in Ohio said they feared retaliation if they did not attend the Romney event.

“Yes, we were in fact told that the Romney event was mandatory and would be without pay, that the hours spent there would need to be made up my non-salaried employees outside of regular working hours, with the only other option being to take a pay cut for the equivalent time,” the employees told Blomquist. “Yes, letters have gone around with lists of names of employees who have not attended or donated to political events.”

John McCain just set record for the most declared wars in 15 minutes!
Thank god this lunatic isn't the president. In his mind Obama hasn't started or escalated enough wars for his liking.

Politically speaking, Huckabee just gave one of the more significant speeches of the convention.
He just gave the green light to Evangelicals to back the Mormon.

This is the best staged night of a convention I can remember as each and every televised speaker from rand to huck, condi, martinez and ryan hit an a+ home run for team R. All their deliveries were very effective for the GOP.

Who is he trying to fool here... my forefathers were all running around Europe when that was going down.

    Honest question:

What is the purpose of either of the conventions?

The candidates are already chosen, I feel like all it serves to do is be one long opportunity for the party faithful to get together and point fingers at the other side while cheering about how great they are/ will be once in power.

The only reason I think they still exist is because they show the candidates well on TV.

Not necessarily. Many states don't have delegates that are pledged to a candidate, so their votes can change. Also, there is no guarantee that one person runs away with it.

4 years ago, Hillary would have taken it to the convention to fight over superdelegates and unpledged if she got close enough.

In 1980 Ted Kennedy fought up until the last couple hours against Carter.

Do many states have delegates that remain unpledged until the convention? I was under the impression that most state delegates vote the way the primary went. I'd imagine there would be a bit of an uproar if delegates just voted for whomever they felt like instead of endorsing the candidate their state went with. Convention politics is something I am very unfamiliar with.
