Default Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives

I'm looking forward to reading this book: Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives.

Here's the Radio-Times interview with the author from their podcast: WHYY-FM: Radio Times Podcast

The book documents an important part of American history.

The story of today's national Republicans putting party before country is a significant event. When one reads the history of fallen civilizations and empires, these kinds of stories are all too common place. That we're seeing it play out here in the U.S. is tragic, and the only thing worse than what the party Republicans are doing is how many Americans have gone along with this, cheering all the way.

When future generations chart the decline of the United States, the Republican Party's response to the election of 2008 will be seen as an important marker.

Basically their job is to run for re-election. Win your campaign and immediately start raising money for the next election. That is when you can make time between taking lobbyist money.

An column in the Washington Post that dovetails with the overall theme of the book, specifically on the DREAM Act (originally proposed by the GOP).

    DREAMing of bipartisanship

When Democrats endorse ideas Republican pioneered, that doesn’t lead to bipartisanship. When they endorse ideas Republicans currently support, that doesn’t lead to bipartisanship. And when they act on their own, that’s too partisan.
Republicans will vote against their own ideas if Obama ends up agreeing with those ideas. The Republican party has become a case-study in partisan dysfunction.

Unfortunately some party officials of the GOP seem to be offering the GOP as thee government of the US and a diluted multiparty system is holding back the American people.

boy if this thread is not entirely one sided I do not know what is.
Do you really think the democrats care anymore about this country than the republicans?
    Really?

Both parties care about this country. The difference is today's national GOP only cares about an America which they control.

Well I've heard somewhere that small town America is the "real" America. Repeatedly. Can't remember where.

Here here! The one thing I always love are the congressional investigation committees. They just went at JP Morgan, lots of loud talk on who's responsible ect. Not one freaking thing will come of it, what a waste of time.

    What should come of it?

    More importantly, why have it?
