Two days ago, someone approached a neighbor of ours on Boyer Street near Gowen, with a clipboard and said he was with a towing company and that another neighbor and his wife were in a bad car accident. He said they were in the hospital and were ok, but their car was badly damaged and needed to be taken off the street and he was trying to collect money from the other neighbor to pay for the towing.
He was throwing names out there of people on the block. I called the neighbor who was supposedly in the accident to see how they were and there was no accident. The other neighbor did not give him the guy any money. I heard this all second hand and am going to talk to the neighbor who spoke to the guy directly, to see what else I can find out, but wanted to put this out there in case they target any other blocks in the area.
If anyone approaches you with this scam, obviously don't give them any money. I imagine if you ask to see their drivers license they won't produce one and will scurry along, and then you can call 911 and report it with a description of the scammer.
